These are from the one Cutaway that was brought.Along with this were 2 complete "Pre-Production" bikes.Those are my words,not a quote. We were informed that there were still small changes taking place like texture and finish changes....mostly minor stuff. Some of the group of Buell People whom were there included Marketing folks Eric Schmidt , Shawn Laughlin and Laura Denissen and the Technical Guy Chuck..(This is only a tiny representation of the many helpful , attentive and exuburant folks present!) The Build Quality was already present , even on these early examples thanks to the wonderful Buell Elves back in Wisconsin! The Design work , Material usage , fit and finish were exemplary and I , like so many other people out there can't hardly hold our enthusiasm in check over this new member to our family.                    I'm going to take this moment to THANK ERIK and his many Co-workers and accomplices in bringing this new addition to the fold.I see many firsts coming from our Favorite Motorcycle Company.And IF THIS IS WHAT DRINKING THE KOOLAID IS ALL ABOUT Then throw some more sugar in!!!.....cause the naysayers will soon be eating their Crow ....FEATHERS and ALL!!!!! | ||

Ebear, Great pics of some detail things that we haven't seen quite yet. I am sure some of the more technical and mechanical people on Badweb will dissect some of the pics. Thanks for sharing your pictures and excitement. | ||

Fresnobuell.......What Pods???After all the outcry over these , when you see the bike in its flesh you'll realize they are actually a unique and (to me and many others whom stated their opinions)quite cool looking!!I know the first images made them look larger.They are neither too large ,nor too bulbous.I will bet Erik agonized over them which shows in the design detail and profile.The leading edges ,entry angles and blending of the directional vane is a thing of beauty to an airflow engineer.But then I was always in love with the shape of the airbox on my X1.If you ever examined the stock cover you will know what I mean......kinda the S2 sleekness and female form example. | ||

Whats up with the dual headers coming off a single exhaust port? That thing is serious eye candy... glad *I* didn't have to plumb all that... thats an amazing job. | ||

Reep and Ft_ - remember, it's a 4 valve engine. 2 exhaust valves per head, and I'm sure they get better flow out of seperate ports than out of a single oval-shaped pipe. Guess this makes it a 4-into-2-into-1-into-2 exhaust? Did anyone else notice the MONSTER sidestand? Wow. Even it looks sculpted... Guess they're trying to avoid any more sidestand recalls, LOL. Great photos. I can't wait to see one in person and throw a leg over. | ||

i believe most multi valve engines have a separate (or siamesed) port for each valve, i am pretty sure KTM does something similar with their dirtbikes. | ||

Cool! That makes sense. How come the inline fours all seem to have a single pipe coming out? Cost? | ||

No KTM doesn't do that on most of it's bikes nor do 99% of other 4 valve bikes. Yes there are examples out there that have done 2 header pipes on a single cylinder but it is not the norm by any means. I'm sure Eric and Rotax have there reason for it thou. I really want to like this bike but I'm still waiting to pass final judgement till I see it in person. My Harley Dealer has my number and will call me as soon as one hits the floor whether it's pre-sold or not just so I can look  | ||

no....hmmmm i never said they do it on "most" or "all", just that they do it. at least half of all KTMs (4 strokes) i've seen in person have dual ports. what do i know??? and it's Erik by the way! (Message edited by sleez on July 26, 2007) | ||

Actually my XR600 has siamesed pipes out of the head too...pretty sure all XRs have these.....Theres a million of 'em around too..... | ||

Look at pictures of the Britten sometime. It used twin pipes coming out of each head. One of the coolest bikes of all time. Too bad John Britten is no longer with us. G. | ||

AMEN....Could you imagine Buell and Britten working together? Not that Eriks ever needed any help , but the ideas that union would create......more mind boggling stuff for sure!!I believe I read once that they were friends....Is this true Anon? |
