Has anyone checked about insurance on the new bike? I really don't know how the insurance companies figure out the insurance rates on new bikes so I was just curious. Will we be tied into the GSXR group, or will they look at the specs. and decide from there? Thanks, Rob |

Well I did a quote for the 1125 and my clone and it was 115 a month. Full on the 1125 and one comp on the clone. NOW That may change when the insu. companies get more info. |

Thanks guys. Gives me something to think about before I make the plunge on the new bike. I think I will call my insurance and ask. If I can lock it in on the quote they give me then I'm in! If not then I'll have to wait till next year. |

I've got DairyLand (HD Insurance) and as far as I know they look at the size of the engine, age, record, and years of experience. So based on that, it could actually be a little cheaper than our XB12's? Hope they don't figure out the size of the engine doesn't have anything to do with how much power it puts out. Kinda pissed me off when I found out I could insure a (faster and less maneuverable) 600cc or 750cc IL4 than my XB12 though. Don't think I didn't try to educate the little CS Rep I got the quote from. Of course I may as well have been arguing with a fence post for all the good I did. I'm just glad to note that my premium has gone down each year so far. |

Buy the thing outright, and put an assigned value umbrella policy coverage on it. Plus up on your medical, and quit hanging out with the GSX'r crowds, it will significantly LOWER your insurance rates. That is assuming you are already over 25, married, dont smoke, have other policies with the company, a clean driving record, no repo's, collections, garage the bike, and dont ride more that say... 5k miles a year. (used to do insurance) |

Insurance question -- On the medical aspect coverage. My cars are under one policy - 500k CSL coverage. The bike (older x1) is on a different policy for just libialty. If I crash (my fault) can I use my cars insurance policy for medical? Kinda like if I was driving somebody elses car. |

My insurance through State farm on My Xb12Ss and V-Rod are off by $1.00 from each other. 25.99 vs 24.99 /month. They go by engine size |

I can vouch for State Farm! As stated above, they go on engine size, so I'll be paying less for the 1125R than my current XB12. |

Ryker, read your policy carefully. Unless it is an over arching umbrella policy, you cant share coverages like that (least not in the state of washington) ie your med coverage on your cars would not cover med issues on your motorcycle if you were injured there. Honestly, none of the medical coverages attached to a vehicle policy perform very well. Not when an ambulance ride is routinely 2k and your limits are 1000 ! Talk to your agent for your state, but in Wa, it just doesnt make since to add med to the vehicle policy. Get a supplemental coverage for that. And remember that most insurance companies will always delay on paying on MVAs (they want to make sure someone else cant be sued before they pay out) |

I think mine is through Progressive, and I was told that it would be less than the $400 a year I pay on my XB12R. I was told that the engine was smaller displacement so the cost would be less. |

I am with USAA... but they subbed me out to PROGRESSIVE for ALL motorcycle policies.. I pay $385 a year for (2) 99 X1's with FULL coverage, $250.00 Deductible and MAXED out Med, Prop and Uninsured Motorist coverages... They have ALWAYS treated me VERY well... The DO go off ENGINE size... the 1125 R is going to be CHEAPER than my X1's Matt. |

Geico is horrible with MC's as far as I can tell. I use Dairyland as well. Isn't dairyland owned by HDI? |

I have always thought that simply using engine displacement was a totally retarded way of determining risk and therefore insurance premiums. Why don't they use some other measurement that virtually all bikes have, ie horsepower? I guess you would have "crank HP" and "RW HP" questions or dyno differences. THe answer seems to be that displacement is set and will never change or be subject to different interpretations (ie HP). Interesting. |

Cgocifer, They told me it had to do with my AREA... I live in GEORGIA.. My policy through USAA show my Cars and my bikes but... my Policy, Policy Number and Cards are from PROGRESSIVE.... It COULD BE that USAA is linking up with them in a POSSIBLE merger..... I heard rumors of it LONG ago... but i am NOT sure if that is whats happening or not... All i know is that I can call USAA on my Bikes... and they will transfer me over to the Progressive side for the answers... Maybe someone here may know some INSIDE info on them... Matt. |

Mustn't forget your credit rating, either. Insurance companies take that into account when they break you over the counter and load you like a shotgun. Bob |

Progressive is usually OK, but Sentry Dairyland is fantastic if you can get it in your state. |

I have never took the time to actually read my moto policy..is there typically a specific exclusion to incidents while racing or doing track time? I would assume so, but possibly a fellow Bueller could confirm? |

To the other USAA guys - they subbed me out to Drive as well, and jacked my rates. I think they don't like doing bikes (I live in MD). I gave up and went with HD Insurance for all of our bikes, and saved a ton of money doing it. Same coverage, same mileages, same everything....just 1/3 the premium cost (yeah, USAA was really sticking me). I do still carry my homeowners, flood/fire/theft, and all the cage insurance with USAA though... And for the VRSC premium question: Sport-*Cruiser*. Buells are typically rated as Sportbikes (not SuperSport like the GSXRs and stuff though). I pay less for my 1340cc FLHP than I do for my S1W or S2...and it has a bigger engine. It's a "cruiser". I just hope the 1125 doesn't get cornholed into the supersport category. Of course, I'm not an insurance person, just a bike seller...maybe someone can shed more light on the levels of risk (cruiser, sport cruiser, sportbike, supersport)? |

I agree with Anonymous. I am with Dairyland/Sentry and their rates are the lowest I've found. |

Found this in the RiderX review: Buell worked with Sentry Insurance to design a bike capable of withstanding low-speed wipeouts with minimal damage, so that 1125R owners could qualify for cheaper insurance. One reason the radiator sidepods are so bulbous is that they serve as springy “sliders” that prevent the frame from being scraped in a low-side crash. I really put my body on the line testing this function, when I noticed a skiff of sand in Carmel Valley and dove toward it, low-siding at 30 or 40 mph. A slider built into the right-side engine cover gave up the ghost, as did one of those plastic pods. (“It’s only a $50 part!” one of the Buell guys told me with pride.) Very cool to see a manufacturer working hand-in-hand with the insurance company to make an "affordable" bike (Message edited by lake_bueller on August 30, 2007) |

LOL! That would get an engineer fired at Honda! It should be a $50 part to make that retails for $289. And requires another $28 in fasteners. |

Out of curiosity and the fact that my current insurance company recently reclassed the XB9SX into the Sportbike category, I gave Sentry a call. Wow. Sure disappointed at the $2,000 a year quote for the XB9SX (I have a clean record). I asked if this was a California thing and the rep couldn't answer that question. She did say that even within states there are wildly differing premiums for the same bike, so who knows. |
