Blake sez: Jimi, when you come up with a means to force all dealerships to provide acceptable sales and service support for Buell customers, then please let the folks at HDI know; I'm certain they will be eagerly listening. Hey, I am but a "troll", so I don't have all the answers...but if HD really wants the "big return" they will find a way. Let them put all of those lawyers on it who are currently searching the internet for brand name infringement on custom choppers, or some such crap. The secret is in the contracts...and that is what lawyers do. First off, they have to WANT to, the rest is easy in comparison.} They have the dealership network to make Buell the top selling sportbike in the world...they just don't use it. But what do I know about it...I am but a "troll". jimidan |

Pity Pot? I don't need no stinkin' pity pot. Besides, the only hackles raised seem to be on the backs of the kool-aide drinking sheeple on here. Either I am but a troll or not. Which is it? You can't have it both ways. In spite of what you may think (loosely interpreted), most of my post are not designed to raise hackles, just to keep the dialogue honest and real (this one excluded). ZING! (I love SNL too). Plus, I don't start none, but I don't take none off of anybody. Anyway, I am feeling rather vindicated after Reg's little visit, doncha think? Thanks for the well meaning and thoughtful advice. Your thoughts are always near and dear to my heart. jimidan Keeping it real after all these years (Message edited by jimidan on July 23, 2007) |

I feel kinda bad, I mean using my real name and all, but Reg's visit brought to light a good point and one I agree with. . . . . there are increased restrictions on what Anonymous poster should be able to do. In all candor, behind the mask of anonymity you pretty well have a higher duty of care which should limit posting to facts. Opinions are pretty well reserved for folks with names. By the way, Reg did a great job. He did not make you look smart or of much value in terms of your contributions. . . he's not THAT good a writer. In my opinion, of course I post under the same name that appears on my drivers license and birth certificate, your posts bring very little of value and make you appear well below the average brightness of internet posters. The good news is that I've been part of this internet thing for years and have grown to accept the fact that the normal distribution curve of human behavior is as tough to shake as bubble gum on a hot sneaker. That's simply my personal opinion. Court Canfield New York City |

My name is in my profile as well... So is the "Pup's" grudge against all things BUELL, transmission repairs and a bad dealer experience. Probably bought someone else's used bike problems and has been trying to make BUELL pay a price by his frequents rants. There is one thread from a year ago where he says he just wishes Buell would finally put a good motor in their bikes. So isn't that what we have here in the new 1125R. He still is just bitter about his repair history, maybe he trashed the bike himself, it always has to be someone else's fault, right? WHOOPS, I guess the "PUP" is "cyber-history", gone with a keystroke, never to grace these pages again, no great loss. (Message edited by CurtyD on July 23, 2007) |

Well, I may throw one of my bad FZR trannies at the next person who complains about Buell reliability. When somebody says there is a race at the FZR meet, they mean who can rebuild the transmission the fastest. So, thoughts on the 1125R and Buell's future?? I think this bike will be the company's "breakout" model, and XBR-loving geezers such as myself will blame the new bike for everything from global warming to reality TV if the Firebolt is discontinued. |

That's simply my personal opinion. Court Canfield New York City ER ah, thanks for your personal opinion...'scuse me if I don't act surprised. I certainly cannot say that you were esoteric in this post. Plus, as you can see, I ain't skeered to post my name either, which is also in my profile for all to see. The "value" of Reg's post was obviously not to make me "look smart or of much value in terms of (my) contributions" (jeeze...you are a piece of work!). Rather, the "value" was to offer criticism from an authority figure of the Buell community, who's credentials are above reproach so that they could not be easily dismissed. It was a concise and reasonable analysis of the ugly personal attacks, derision and degrading comments by Anony posters towards Buell owners who are asking politically incorrect questions. Reg's conclusion that this behavior was "unconscionable" should also be applied to the feeding frenzy and banishment of a politically incorrect poster (who is also a Buell owner) that ensued. When I made essentially the same (again politically incorrect) argument as Reg, it was sooo easy for Anony and his cadre of the glassy-eyed (Stepford Wives) faithful to dismiss it as the "rantings" of a "troll". Smack-down journalism, as it were. Nobody on here can call Reg a "troll", that is for sure (although, I would bet that is what Anony thinks he is...he just can't get away with stating it). Reg is da' voice of reason! So, yeah, I am feeling a bit vindicated, but that isn't the point that you guys should learn from this experience. You should take heed to what he said, and less to the "great job" he did in saying it. Apparently, you guys missed the whole point of his post...shucks, Blake even tried to pick it apart, point by point, and tell him he was wrong! Now that was a clever display of hubris, er, humility. Humilty on Badweb? That is an interesting concept, although I see it only occasionally on here? That is something that we all could practice a little more of in life, myself included. But let's face it, I don't have a corner on the market of vanity around here. There is an abundance of testosterone poisoning on this site (see feeding frenzy). Mainly, I am on here for personal amusement and if I learn something I didn't know, that is a bonus. As far as my contributing anything of "value", who really cares...this is the internet fer crissakes, and as you (Court) have pointed out repeatedly, it is more of an amusement park than a library. However, I reserve my very limited role as simply the guy who has the nads to try to ask some of the tough questions, and cut through the smoke being blown up our arses. This is something that is seriously lacking around here...but don't take this "troll's" (who has 3 Buell VIN #'s in his name) word for it, just read what Reg says. He wasn't afraid to tell it like it is when he ran Battle2Win (which I still have every single copy), and he isn't afraid to do it now on here. You can take my comments or leave them for what it is worth, but one thing is for sure...some of you are WAYYY too serious about this stuff. For those of you who have stated that you think I am on here just to raise your hackles, then I would suggest that you have an inflated opinion of your own value to this board or me...and I can do nothing about that. Might I suggest that you guys re-read Reg's post, as you obviously just didn't get it the first time around. Now that fact may not "make you appear well below the average brightness of internet posters", but it doesn't make you seem any brighter either. That's simply my personal opinion. Jim, I wouldn't go so far as to call you a troll BUT if you think Buell did something wrong, like not going to all metric on this bike, you simply go on and on about it until somebody slaps you. You think you are right on this and Buell is wrong and you won't accept any other answer. When an ANON says it made sense to them and they had good reason to do it you say that the reason makes no sense to you. If you ran a motorcycle manufacturing facility or even any other business as complicated as Buell your opinion would carry more weight, right now it is your opinion. As far as Reg not liking ANON posts; well it is them or nothing. Corporate would smack the boys upside the head if they had a name attached to the post. Would you rather that a factory person would create a persona that is not them and the say "Hi I'm Tazio Nuvolari and I work at Buell and here is the skinny" Would that be any more or less acceptable than the ANON posting? Lets enjoy the ANON post while we have them; I am pretty sure it will not be long before the legal guys make stop. As long a Blake is willing to vouch for them I am good with it. My assumption is that Blake is keeping the marketing spinmeisters honest and keeping them form becoming backdoor marketing attempts Now can we expect the ANON posts to be free of all bias and prejudice? Of course not, Erik is a man of strong opinions, usually right, and he hires people of strong opinions, usually right, to work for him. (how unusual is for a strong willed, passionate person with brilliant ideas to hire a bunch of people like him? Folks who will say "Erik, I think you are wrong".) They are a passionate bunch BUT they are able to look at the facts and will come to correct conclusions. Sometimes these conclusions may not be the same conclusions that others will come to but I believe that they are right way, way more than they are wrong. An example; the ZTL brake system works very well and Buell folks will defend it like a mother bear defends her cubs. Can it be criticized for fading under very hard use, seems like the answer to that is yes. They have a fix for that in the ZTL2 system and will justifiably get very upset if you say a standard dual disc setup is better. It may have better fade resistance than the standard ZTL system in some instances but is it a better system for a street bike when you consider rotational mass and unsprung weight? NO. To expect one of the Elves to come on here and coolly and dispassionately state their case in the face of continued pokes is unrealistic. If you think they have been over the top then you have not sat in on any discussions with them when they actually get excited! Better have a thick skin if any of it is directed at you, especially if yo are wrong! |

The future I wonder about is that of the BadWeb and Buell in general. Right now Buell is a bike that is akin to being a boutiqe product without the boutiqe price. We are able to come on the BadWeb have a grand ol' time. Meet tons of freinds and become well know Buellist. Will the 1125 bust onto a new level for Buell. Will our once semi-exclusive club be no more? Will certian "band" memebers no longer be able to sit in a small bar and Wisconsin and have a drink with you? What about the Buell scene? Will we see a huge influx of Buellers in 1125's and other Buell superbikes (man it feels cool to say that) taking over local sportbike nights? Will the ATGATT mantra take over and the Squid become an endangered, rarely seen species? OOOO the humanity |

Spiderman raises some interesting issues should BMC grow significantly. "Will certian "band" memebers no longer be able to sit in a small bar and Wisconsin and have a drink with you?" HD is pretty good about keeping things personal and giving the illusion of being a "member of the family." For instance, Willie G is fairly accessable. Perhaps a future role model for Erik? "Will our once semi-exclusive club be no more?" One of the tough growth issues for Buell will be how to retain those owners who are attracted by Buells small, highly personal atmosphere when Buells become common. Some owners will leave and move on to other brands like Moto Guzzi. I suspect Buells plan is for every owner that leaves to replaced by 5 new owners. For instance, despite many loyal owner complaints, Buell didn't hesitate to drop the tubers and was rewarded by record sales. m |

Back to "Buells future" for just a minute. Most major motorcycle and automobile manufacturers I believe want your maintenance and repair business as well as your initial purchase. There is quite a bit of profit in that and HD Inc. should by now realize that when they exclude Buells in that equation at ANY of their dealerships they are loosing a lot of potential income & profit. Lets hope the powers to be see this and step up on that very important part of Buell ownership. And lets not forget a parts and aftermarket inventory for our Buells as good as the current leather and chrome shops we have now. Al at American Sport Bike has proved that is a viable business. Many people who might be coming into our fold with the new 1125's will be wanting these options and as buyers they should have them. Lets see Buell grow with bigger and better sport and sport touring bikes and I will not mind loosing a bit of the exclusiveness I have now. I will retain that in keeping my M2 even after I have the new one. |

Don Chase, President of the Buell Owners Group - the day we had to flip to the 2nd page on the legal pad to keep out list of all the Buell owners in the world. Like Phil said . . . with 44 Buell owners, how the hell are we going to remember everyone's name? By the time we hit 50, I pretty much figured Erik had gone overboard.
