Can someone give me information on obtaining a header for a 99X1? I currently have a Force full exhaust system that is going to be sold sooner or later. Im wanting to pull it off and go to a Supertrapp slip on but I need the header pipes. I have looked on E-Bay etc and cant find what i need. I know the race headers are no longer made and are difficult to find. Im guessing i will have to go just to a stock header. Is this something i can buy from a dealer or another company. Any helps appreciated. | ||

Scott You should be able to get the headers from the dealer. I pickup a set of S1W headers for my 96 S-1 last summer. I did have a problem with fitment, that required a second set to get right. It seems that they had just changed mfg of header. But they appear to be at least as good as the stock pipes I pulled off. Joe | ||

Iron Machine has them new for 500.00$. I have no idea what a dealer charges. I know Chicago H-D gives 20% discount on all factory parts and I believe shipping is reasonable. After you buy them, polish them before install. Will run cooler and looks great. | ||

One more thing. I was wondering why you couldn't use the headers from your Force? Cut off the can and fabricate some kind of set up? I am just speculating, but it seems to me that since they both use same mounting points maybe something could be done. It sure would be a lot cheaper and probably run and sound great w/ the Trapp. | ||

War, I checked my dealer last Friday and yep $500. I hadnt thought of cutting off the Force as i was going to sell it. I guess this would work rather well as the Force headers are probably as good as the stock or even the race header. Ever heard of anyone doing this? How can i determine the cutoff points? | ||

I modified a V&H to fit my Buell race header. I used the same mount up front (never did get the Y-mount) and the V&H rear hanger. I had to shorten the can (easier than it sounds) and cut the 90 degree elbow off and get what was left of the inlet expanded to fit over the race header. I used the clamps and hardware from the stock setup (notice the 'speed holes' in the big washer on the front mount? That mod alone was worth 1 1/2 butt dyno horsepower.)  I offset the mounting holes in the rear hanger to get everything lined up.  It works great. I didn't use the stainless steel race can because it was sooo much heavier than the aluminum V&H. It's holding up fine in this guise after 2 years and 15,000 miles. You can just barely see the little skid plate I welded to the back of the can. If you use the Force header, get the muffler you plan on using before you start trimming anything. Measure twice and cut as many time as it takes to get what you measured twice... that's what I always say. | ||

Well, I'm halfway there. I just logged into my e-bay account and was doing my daily check of things for sale and found a brand new internal disc Supertrapp for $250. Lowest i had seen was about $100 more than that. Shipping was $20 from Canada which i thought was reasonable. I love it when you find a deal! | ||

Be careful that you don't get the old style Supertrapp. It was a two piece rather than the current version w/ the welded elbow. The old ones are prone to failure and could snap at front mount and catapult you. Most of the cheap ones on e-bay are of the old variety. The best price I found and where I bought mine, was Steel Thunder for 395.00 shipped. By the way, the Trapp sounds awesome. Be sure to run the race cap w/ anywhere between 18-21 discs. | ||

Part # on this was 725-71235. It matches up with the Supertrapp website application guide ad the photo appears as though the elbow is welded. I hope its not the old style but i think im ok. | ||
