Has the 1125R been emissions certified yet? Will the 1125R different tuning to meet CA emissions? G. |

No special "tuning" for CA market (just carbon can). No special gearing for specific markets. |

You can get on their listserv here: http://www.arb.ca.gov/listserv/listserv.php Wait, I just clicked your profile and it appears you're in Arizona, so ignore the California links above. |

Tony Stefanelli was explaining the exhaust to me at Carbones at the 1125R intro, and he said that it had a Cat in the California muffler. That seemed odd, as I hadn't seen that in the other literature, which mentioned the cat only for the Euro model. So, does the CA version have a cat in the muffler or not? Al |

Thanks for the input Mike. No, I don't live in CA (anymore). The questions have nothing to do with where I live. I think, from the response, some of the anonymous posters know why I'm asking. Here's the deal: If the 1125R is not yet emissions certified, there is likely to be some change in the HP/torque specs. G. |

I suspect, judging from Buell's candor about the bike being 2 to 3 months from complete, that the idea there will be no changes would be a bit of a stretch. What, I wonder, is the impact of the emissions devices on the current crop of CA bikes? |

If the 1125R is not yet emissions certified, there is likely to be some change in the HP/torque specs. I would be surprised if they didn't have this nail pounded down and welded in place by this point. The likely are still tweaking the FI and the ignition curves as well as fine tuning suspension and generally looking for any real world issues that may have been missed. A bigger part is dialing the production line in so that they can make the bike that they are supposed to make. |

No special "tuning" for CA market (just carbon can). Where will they "hide" the carbon can? Hopefully not in plain view on the side of the engine like on my XB9SX.... |

There are answers to all these questions. The CA bike, in terms of C.A.R.B. compliance, will soon be explained. For what it's worth, and it's pretty cool, the European bikes that ALL have catalytic converters loose no power at all. Buell has done the converter in such a way that id does not hurt power. These European bikes have been tested, witnessed and homologated. Caveat (that's a French word, right?) if you are a resident of the Great Kingdom of France you are screwed by your countries 100HP limit and will get a special model. Whatever you do. . . do not clip that white wire and place yourself in imminent danger! P.S. - the "white wire" part is pure BS to humor the French . . the rest is fact. |

>>>>Carbon Can is under the rider seat.} Okay . . . that clears that up. I misunderstood. I thought the exhaust was route THROUGH the rider. Now it makes sense and I am no longer scared to ride the bike. |

Court, What, I wonder, is the impact of the emissions devices on the current crop of CA bikes? Precisely the reason for my original inquiry. After all the bike magazines (US) with the largest readership are based in CA and theirs will be the most read tests. Also I said HP/Torque spec. I should have been more precise. What I am referring to is the HP/Torque dyno chart. G. |

The cat on the CA models is a huge ring in the front chamber of the muffler, which doesn't change the power at all. Allegedly. As told to me by one of the engineers at Laguna. It's just straight through. No restriction. I'm basically quoting the guy here, not word for word, but close. It was a long weekend with lots of saddle miles and alcoholic lubricant, but I think that's pretty close... |

It's referred to as a "mini-cat" and I am not sure journalists, based in CA, are required to test CA compliant bikes. If so, I doubt all the tests of the 1098 would have occured. Has anyone ever seen a 1098 test WITHOUT the optional performance kit? I do not know about the torque/hp curve for CA. I know the Euro version, with the full catalytic converter is alledgedly "unchanged". It'll be exciting. |

For the French guys: I've checked on DTII (program to interface w/ HD/Buell bikes) and BOTH OEM calibrations are on there to download. US spec and French (105hp is what it noted in the program) spec. You just need to figure out a way to have the dealer flash it for you. Of course, all of this is at your own risk (happy disclaimer). |

Just for info, being in the magazine and vehicle testing biz, journalists in CA are not required to test CA bikes, and often the vehicles we get are compliant to the state the company resides in. For instance, if I am testing a Hummer, it'll be a Michigan vehicle with Michigan MFG plate (but sometimes they are 50-state), Toyotas come from CA, and the Harleys that the bike guys test come from Wisconsin. --Sean |

Precisely. If that were the case there would never be a media event in CA. |

Full power on all models is what you will get on all models, as Court said, except for the reduuced power French models. And the French will have the bikes at full power about ten minutes after delivery based on what I see in their Buell racing success!!! California and Europe models will have cats, but not 49 state. Paperwork is not all done, but calibration and emissions work is. |

French assembly: 1. Unload crate from truck. 2. Open crate. 3. Access and clip white wire. 4. Remove bike from crate and prep for new owner. Am I close????? (I still want to get a set of those Buell shipping straps some day.) |

The French don't seem to be very handicapped by their state imposed 100HP limit. I can see where the "adjust to altitude" could be a consideration. All the pictures I have seen of French Buell riders, they are standing on top of a tall box looking down at Ducati riders. . . with fogged shields. Viva la France! |

Aussie bike will be identical to Brit except the Aussie will have kph, the Brit mph. Power is equal. |
