no one said you had to use race boots. Did they? I would say just were some work boots, cowboy boots, or combat boots. Im sure a Harley dealership is not going to make you wear motogp style boots to test ride there bikes. |

Boots are pretty minimal rider gear, and you want them for the same reason road racers want gauntlet gloves. The idea is to at least cover the ankle. First, you want a little padding over the projecting joint, so you don't shatter anything from an impact. Secondly, getting your foot trapped under a sliding bike in a low-side or high-side incident is a quite possible nightmare. In tennis shoes, you could quickly grind into the projecting bone at the joint. Not a pretty picture, easily alleviated with even high-top hiking boots, work boots, or riding boots, and a good idea if you're riding anything from a Softail to a GSX-R. |

I ride without boots all the time! Usually when I'm moving my bike from the driveway to the garage....

yeah, I'm also sure they don't mean race boots (like my sidi vertigos that I wear whenever I ride) but rather leather boots
that cover the ankle. This is a pretty universal Buell policy (if enforced) and not at all uncommon. |

Nicozzzz.. there will be a Buell invasion of Italy (Tuscany) for several weeks next summer.
When you get to New York City we'll discuss Germany.
Me? . . I am all for anything that would require Blake to wear lederhosen!

Ok, so I might not be able to test ride for awhile, but I think I'm going to head down to the dealer and at least take a look and maybe listen to the XBs.
I really wish I was off next weekend, as the California Buell demo thing is coming and it's close enough to easily drive to.... |

And I firmly agree with this topic. I was smitten with Buell before I bought one, now I have 2 and am in full lust(uhm, love).
Not just a choice but a lifestyle.

My dealer would have let me ride the bike in a tank top and flip flops if I wanted... not that I ever would.
I just got a set of Joe Rocket Sonic road boots. They go more then half way to my knee, and have decent padding, good thickness, and some minor armor. The extra height may be overkill and makes the bike a little less comfortable (the less mobile ankle joint puts more pressure on the knee joint), but they are pretty comfortable overall.
Like every other piece of safety gear I have accumulated over the years, it felt weird and uncomfortable for about the first week... but after that, *not* wearing them freaks me out and is profoundly uncomfortable. |

I got a pair of Nike basketball shoes on sale for $30. They're leather, the come up over my ankle and they make my arthritic toe feel good. They're not as safe as my purpose-built Harley boots or motorcycle-oriented Wellington-style riding boots, but they work. |

Back on topic,
I am in Washington state. I don't get to see Buell represented very often, Until the 2006 IMC show at the Seattle Convention Center.
I walked in wearing my black and titanium foil Vanson leather Buell jacket, thinking I was one of many. Wrong, I was ALONE. Until I visited the Buell booth that is. The booth attendants were Buell employees, not a hired sales staff. I was impressed to say the least. Talking to the people that build these bikes, and seeing just how much they love the company and the man. Very different from every other vendor in the place. Anyway, they saw my love for the bikes and actually referred me to people with questions, seeing as how I am a Buellophile, I was more then willing to explain Fuel in frame, Trilogy of tech stuff. I think I may have sold a few Buells without even knowing it.
Anyway, my point. Buell is truly a "By us, for Us" kind of company, an I really appreciate that!!
PS. Now, If only I could get my bikes signed.

did you never taste Fiorentina steack ? I think will be difficult to bring you out of restaurants with fiorentina and a good chianti wine ;)
only think will be necessary is to have a correct period in beginnig of 2008, so we can adjust our club schedule and assure other club invitation

I really expected to see some sort of representation from American Sport Bike, Racing Motorcycles, Iron machine,
and the guys from Europe too
We have never been invited to attend the Homecoming as a vendor, and to be honest I would be extremely surprised if we were welcome there because we are not a franchised H-D/Buell dealer. I don't know if Al has had any contact in this regard but we certainly haven't.
Another problem for us attending this event would be the substantial cost involved in flying at least two people plus stock over to the US. Much as I would love to attend, it isn't really a practical proposition I'm afraid.
A European 'Homecoming' though would be a different proposition |

Buell should take a note from the Jap car makers. They will leak "tuner" cars to the aftermarket sector before the cars get on the market. So that on day one that the car is on the market the aftermarket parts and support will be there as well.

Good in theory, but not feasable.
Imports NEED aftermarket to cover the stale white bread of the lemming mobiles they produce. While Buell doesn't really need any help in that department. Although the aftermarket will react in plenty of time. |

Why not?
How do you think that Akrapovic etc manage to release new exhausts for bikes almost as soon as the bike is launched? Most of the big Japanese manufacturers will release new models to established aftermarket producers prior to the official launch. It is in their interests to have a healthy aftermarket industry supplying parts for their bikes from day one.
If Erik wants to send me a pre production 1125R I would of course make very good use of it ;) |
