I am Producing/Directing a team competing in Nashville's 48 Hour Film Project. Long story short I will be leading a team of about 30 people (cast & crew). We will have to make a short film from scratch in a weekend. I have no idea what the movie will be about until tomorrow @ 7pm. I will have to hand over a completed movie sunday @ 7pm. Everything is done in the 48 hours, writing, shooting, editing even the music must be created during the 48 hours. We are trying to find a place to put the Buells in the movie. If we can squeeze on in, we will not dub the bike sound like other movies have done to Buells. Wish us luck! http://www.48hourfilm.com/ The 48 Hour Film Project's mission is to advance filmmaking and promote filmmakers. Through its festival/competition, the Project encourages filmmakers and would-be filmmakers to get out there and make movies. The tight deadline of 48 hours puts the focus squarely on the filmmakers—emphasizing creativity and teamwork skills. While the time limit places an unusual restriction on the filmmakers, it is also liberating by putting an emphasis on "doing" instead of "talking." (Message edited by barker on July 19, 2007) |

Congrats Barker! Sounds like a 48 hour movie making marathon, good luck. I have this visual of you handing in your movie at 6:59 and dropping to the ground in exhaustion! |

Last year I was Gaffer on a team. I got the time to swing by the drop off location @ about 6:45pm sunday. It was like a Duke's of Hazzard episode with cars fling into the parking lot and sliding around with people jumping out and running! I will probably not rest at all. Either work or excitement. I have a full day of work tomorrow, then it begins, wont sleep that much. Monday morning I have to shoot to a Colonoscopy. Wow that aught to be interesting. I just hope don't pull Western or Musical those are always the hardest. (Message edited by barker on July 19, 2007) |

Print out the RAN list here and have it handy. Lots of Buell owners are also big into music. I'd suspect that no matter what your movie subject is about, being in Nashville I'd suspect it'd be somewhat easy to blend in some Buell aspects. If you can, post up the subject when you get it. Should be fun. Just looked at the rules:
quote:8. The finished film must be a minimum of 4 minutes in duration, and a maximum of 7 minutes in duration. 9. Credits at the end of each film are limited to a maximum of 60 seconds. The 60 seconds is considered additional to the length of the film, as stated in Rule 8. (That is, a film may be 7 minutes long, with an additional 60 seconds of credits, for a total running time of 8 minutes.)
Well, that rules out a 2-hour docu-drama destined for Sundance. I assume you're into film work so have fun. And when it's all done come back and give us a detailed report. |

Wow 30 people to make a 7 min max film. Not breakin balls just didn't realize making a film took so much man/woman power. So is it harder to make a long movie or try and cram a bunch of ideas into 7 min? |

My day job is making TV spots it take about 3 people a whole day to make one. 30 seconds = about 25 man hours. And lot of expensive gear. And we do low budget local and regional Spots. Alot of people dont realize how much it take to make a movie. It takes alot of people. Here is what we have so far. Producer/Director Line Producer A camera op. B camera op. 1st camera assist 2nd camera assist Sound recordist Two Production assists Jib/Dolly Op. Video tech Gaffer Best boy Driver Leagal assit. Catering Editor 2 edit assists Colorist Music Composer Musicians Two writers make-up/hair Props/wardrobe Plus the Cast/extras This is only a low/no budget short! I did hear once that a one man crew tried it. The largest team was 70+. Teams average about 15 members. A team that won a few years back pulled Historical Fiction, They did a full civil war reinactment. I dont know how they found the costumes, guns and operational vitage cannons on short notice. Nice job. Had to watch it in silent mode here at work, will listen to the audio tonight. It might be good to send to an indirect relative with issues currently. I liked the 6:57 flip to black, right on the edge of the nickel for the time limit, nice editing and panning work too. = = = = = (ps, are you hiring?????) (Message edited by mikej on July 24, 2007) |

I think we made a good piece for what we put into it. My #1 goal was a to have good story. But as my DP said during the shoot, "We are not winning any acting awards" |
