My bike is a 9, I have heard of more 12 owners mention it, along with a few other quirks the 9 doesn't seem to have.
Also when i had the Force megaphone on it, i never got all the decel pop to go away(although I was getting there). So the exhaust length definitely plays some sort of role, I believe. I'd bet that the 08's probably wont be near as bad , because of the DDFI3 having more control over the timing and idle valve and faster processing speed. |

I wouldn't do anything to take the pop out. I like it. I like to think I'm piloting a very skinny V-8 muscle car.
Wouldn't the "lean" condition exist regardless of the exhaust system utilized? |

That's the issue. I don't understand how you can have both a lean condition AND have unburned fuel in the exhaust system.
The popping usually happens at higher rpms with the throttle closed. Because of the higher rpms, the air moving in and out of the engine is still going pretty quick. Because the mixture is lean, it doesn't have enough time to ignite in the cylinder every once in a while, so it gets spit out into the exhuast and burns there because of the heat. |

i just came in from a little exhaust experiment. i have a special ops pipe that is a bit loud for me, and the decel popping is driving me mad,(really bad coming down the mountains on last weeks trip to deals gap, blue rigde pkwy ect...) my ducati has termi CF pipes with removable baffles that aren't being used. they fit perfectly into the twin tips on my special ops pipe, so i drilled a hole and installed them on my 06 ulysses. now the sound is just a little louder than stock, and no decel popping whatsoever. performance seemed unchanged but it started raining, so i only got 10 miles in. BTW i have an open airbox, race filter, and ECM remapped by Al at American Sportbike. |

I would bet the baffles increased the back pressure slightly.
OR
The baffles prevented inside and outside exhaust pressure differentials. |

I'm pretty sure an exhaust leak could be the culprit in some of our situations. I remember when I first put my race can on, it popped so loud on decel I was scared it was going to damage something. I tightened up the header clamp some more, and it reduced the popping by half. |

whenever i get popping on decel thats worse than normal and seemingly out of nowhere... i snug up the header bolts and it goes away. EDIT: i meant it goes back to its normal off-beat-grumble-pop, which i dig ;)
i also check the condition of my RTV around the header -> pipe joint. anytime i have the pipe off i lay a fresh bead to seal that joint. (thanks Kevin!)
