I've always liked the XB12R, but wish it could have a bigger gas tank, better headlights and more STish features. With the 1125R in the lineup, does this mean any development is reserved for the Rotax platform? Is there going to still be new models coming out on the XB frame?

You have to think of it like this.

Did Duc stop making air cooled when it introduced water cooled?

No they didn't and they hav improved both their air cooled and water cooled lines, they even introduced a new air cooled motor a little over a year ago called the DS1000.

A lot of work went into developing the new 08 XB motors so I doubt they will drop it or stop improving it anytime soon...

Of course the XB series will continue and will evolve. Totally different bikes for different customers.

Yep. Gotta keep one of each in the stable.

Spider man said "No they didn't and they hav improved both their air cooled and water cooled lines, they even introduced a new air cooled motor a little over a year ago called the DS1000."

The new motor is the DS1100 version.
The DS1000 is still being used in the Sport Classics and S2R, the 1100 is in the Multistrada and new Hypermotard.

I'm sure Buell is going to continue to refine the current XB catalog of bikes. My question pertains to development of new bikes. Is there ever going to be a true sport touring bike based off of the XB series?

My guess is the sport touring bike will be based of the Rotax motor. You can do alot more along sport touring lines with 145hp than the lump. Remember sport tourers are notoriously heavy as well with lots of do dads. I think just adding a hard bag set up to the 1125r may be the answer ie following the Kawasaki strategy with the ZX14.

I remember Erik saying something about not producing any more sport tourers because there wasn't much of a market of them...but that was years ago after they dropped the S3. Reckon things have changed?

Mikef,

Then you have multiple personalities, like me! That's how I justify all the bikes to my wife; I find as long as I admit to great failings, then she takes pity on me and lets me have stuff!!!

"Then you have multiple personalities, like me! "

I've been using that 'excuse' for 25 years with the wife and between that and her AmEx it's all good. : )

Dr Jekyl, Mr Hyde, XL883R for nice days and cafe hopping, XB9SX for commuting, dirty road riding, touring, sport carving and camping. : D. Looking for another personality split that would allow me to add another bike to the herd.
