I would just like to be able to BUY an improved reflector for a reasonable price.

saintly took a sampling of all the xbr models we ride with. they all showed some degree of degradation. we were surprised to find that all of us had this problem, even those that seemed to think their lights were "ok" beforehand. although not a scientific sampling it would seam this problem may be more widespread than the current number of nhsta complaints show.

I checked my XB12R lights the other day. The bike is less than a year old with about 4K miles on it and I can see some degradation of the lights and flaking in the reflectors. Thankfully, I very rarely ride at night.

Sort of makes me wonder if mine are already falling apart on me. While the lights aren't great, I never thought them to be bad. Could mine be one th outs after just a few thousand miles? I'd love to see a real fix for this.

RE: the spot lense - I think this was just to dissapate the light better. I think it showed up halfway through '06.

According to Court it will take over 2,000 complaints with the NHTSA before this is "a problem"...so if you have not already, PLEASE FILE!!

Apparently, there is NO real pressure to address this issue until THOUSANDS have filed complaints, written letters to Buell and called the dealer(all moot if you ask me cause we all know that ain't gonna happen), at least that's the way Court makes it sound...I personally doubt that many people will EVER file...and I'm guessing whoever is responsible is counting on that.

This is not a poke at Buell as I don't know who is at the helm of this abortion... Buell, vendor, etc(I really hope these ridiculous "delays" are not the doing of my favorite bike builder).

Regardless of who is responsible, a solution is looooong overdue.

I don't disagree - and against my own analytical nature, I've gone ahead and put a deposit down on an '08 Bolt. I have no hope that the headlight situation will be fixed prior to the mid-August production date but I don't want to just "sit it out" and wait for a solution either. At least I'll be in a better position to complain if I actually own an affected bike.

Court,
That is fantastic news! Thank you for the update. Any idea if replacements will be available for older 'Bolts at that time? Will these parts be considered warranty replacement items, or must we buy them? I must say I expected this to take much longer than it has, good job Buell. My Firebolt is soon to be PERFECT.

Thanks for the update.

Ahhhhhhhh, the future is BRIGHT!

That is great news Court! I'm thrilled to hear it!

Thank you Court, and thank you Erik and Elves!

I really do appreciate the mountains of red tape that has to be moved in a situation like this. (Kind of like being back in
the Navy... or the Corp for those good ol' cannon-fodder jar heads trying to move an action through ANY government
bureaucracy (NHTSA, DOT) is a nightmare, and add to that 2 different corporations on 2 different continent with two
different native languages....well I'm sure there was a lot of asprin consumed...on all sides.
