http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/P lan_Your_Purchase/summer_finance.jsp That up there is a website for one of HD's "Stick it to the Man" marketing schemes. "Stick it to the Man" WTF? "The Man" does not usually refer to a specific individual as such, but instead to the government, leaders of large corporations, and other authority figures in general, such as the police. HD is a big corporation. Are they trying to say be unlawful? The new 2.99% "Stick it to the man, aim low" deal is financed through Eaglemark Savings Bank (ESB), a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson Credit Corp. Dont get me started on why it's dumb to go into debt for anything, especially a bike. But how are we supposed to "Stick it to the Man" Buy buying a 20k trinket from the "Man" and financing this thing from the "Man." Let's make a corporation and a bank rich, and by doing so how is that "Sticking it to the Man" Let's line their pockets, er I mean "Stick it to em!" |

Wow - the ULTIMATE poser: Biker: I'm a badass wannabee HD: I'm a badass company wannabee, Let's pretend, OK? Biker: OK! Michael Jackson, singing, accompanied by badass biker and Harley: "I'm Baaad, I'm bad, you know it!" |

It's advertising. You noticed it and you're talking about it. Some agencies would say 'So far it has worked'. |

But. . .Do the math. If you use the handy dandy online payment calculator you will notice that the 2.99% rate has one of the HIGHEST monthly payments due to the fact that it is a 36 month loan ONLY! You can drop down to the 7.99% loan and stretch it out over 60 months and end up with a MUCH smaller monthly payment. None of this would matter if I was rich like Barker, then I wouldn't need to "go into debt for anything, especially a bike." |

Oh, Chase - Take a close look at the used ones, you will never see one without some mods, like a pipe or maybe a seat or something like that. You buy a new one you gotta add all that stuff. Pretty soon you are WAY over the cost of that used one. |

Reminds me of that cell phone company ad where the older company executive is bragging to an underling about how he's "sticking it to the man" with his new cell phone plan. His underling says "but sir, you ARE the man". |

Pretty soon you are WAY over the cost of that used one. Kinda, maybe... With the nightster, Really, I would put a Supertrapp, or a force on there, and call it good.... That particular bike I love... BUT 6500 for an 01 883 w/ pipes? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-883-Hugger_W0Q QitemZ160139092733QQihZ006QQcategoryZ49995QQrdZ1QQ cmdZViewItem Its 6595 for the 883 NEW... BRAND NEW... Yes, I am aware of how the payment calculator works, and I was playing with it. My point is, I like the sporty, always have, and I was looking for a 91-newer, either 883 or 1200, becuase it will get at a MINIMUM the same treatment my X1 got, but, will probably go 88 or 90 inch.. ALOT of people think they will get every penny invested in return, or, even MAKE money... hell, some do... BUT, I have a 99 Carbon Fiber, 249 of 250, 1250 kit, nothing unmolested except the frame, yadda yadda... and you know what? I cant get 5grand for it... So, I will keep this buell, and not buy anything, as it will take a long time to recover from this divorce.... Chase} |

"if I was rich like Barker" Im not rich, I just don't buy anything I cant afford. I have a simple rule: If I dont have the cash to buy it, I dont buy it. Since I dont have any payments, I am in a very good position to become "rich". If were ever "rich", I would only give it away. IMHO debt is dumb. |

>>IMHO debt is dumb.<< Not being able to service it is dumb. Using the interest on my bike and computers to have nice toys and legally reduce income tax seems OK to me. |

That's one answer to the "Is a Buell a Harley?" question. If my 96 S2 was a Harley I could ask $10,000 dollars for it cause it has a Corbin Seat, Vance & Hines exhaust, and a Mikuni carb. I see used Harley's up for sale for near new prices and I wonder "do people actually buy them?" That was the driving force behind Buell choppers. You could buy a used tuber and build a custom chopper for damn near the price of a sporty. What's really funny is seeing Buell Choppers on eBay for less than used Sportys. I love Buell and have no ill will toward HD, but HD Credit is absolutely horrific. I prefer to use low interest deductible credit lines in order to keep assets liquid and at work. I financed my Buell. I was able to receive a 4.75% interest rate from my bank. HDCred wanted to charge me 15%. What's worse is that I had to wait around for almost 2 hours to find out the ring gauge of the pole. |

Using the interest on my bike and computers to have nice toys and legally reduce income tax seems OK to me. How are you doing that, a home equity loan? I thought the only interest an individual could deduct was for a home mortgage. Unless of course you are using the bike as a "business" vehicle. By the way, I agree that NOT financing anything you don't absolutely have to is right on the money. (Pun intended) I know so many people who are up to their necks in debt, and can't get out of it. Guys paying $700 a month for a truck that isn't worth what they owe on it. Just my opinion, I could be wrong, but if I can't pay for it I don't buy it. } |

err 17620$ cash price fxdwg payment = ~309$ 309$ * 72 mo = $22,248.00 You paid 4,628$ to borrow that money You won't get out for the "cash price" and unless your credit is impeccable you won't get the lowest rate. at 11.99% the payment jumps to 344$ 344$ * 72 = 24,768$ $7,148 To use the Moco Dough. I'm seeing sheep again..... Baa Baa Baa, these are gold sheep and "The Man" is fleiceing them! |

>>Unless of course you are using the bike as a "business" vehicle. << Yep. Have an old Triumph Thunderbird as my Private vee hickle and as a 'freelance writer' everything Buell, all my gear, helmets, computers, cameras are legitimate deductions. Obviously they smell rats - I've been audited twice. All good - it's legit. (Talking modified English tax laws btw.) |

Oldog, Speaking of sheep, HD's black sheep commercial is good. I don't knock HD, they are successful and helping make Buell a better company. If I would have had money to invest in them in the mid-eighties when they first went public, I'd be rich now. |

HD's black sheep commercial is good. I am sorry, when I saw it I started laughing as it was the sillest thing I had seen in a while, then I started remembering all of the "off color" sheep jokes that I had ever heard. and it got well... Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaddddd } That being said they have a great marketing plan, and a captive audience this year is "live by it" There are 50+ year old gals that I see in halter tops at the local botique er shop, they enjoy it, with their husbands - Me I dont have the bread to afford a new bike every three years with all of the chrome and leather trimmings. And I rather like my funky old X1, My Late uncle almost invested in a start up electronics co about 40 years ago, you know TI .. thats life... The comments earlier relate to the "fleeiceing" of finnance. |

I've heard that while the Brits are classy, the Kiwi's really have polish. When I owned a bike shop I have the Internal Revenue up my butt for deductions for trips to Daytona, etc. I had to keep records of "meetings" etc. in order to claim deductions if it wasn't an authorized dealer meeting or something like that. Of course, I went a little overboard once or twice. |

The wealthy don't get that way by paying cash for everything. They have their OWN money deeply invested in making MORE money. They leverage all the assests that they have to that end and USE other people's money as much as possible. IF they can invest their own money at 8% and finance a purchase at 2.99 or even 6.99 - they they are ahead of where they would have been becuase they are making money on the spread. You'll rarely see a RICH person turn down a 2.99% interst rate, because financing it is cheaper than pulling their OWN money out of an investment earning 8%. Even the average Person is better off investing their 12,000 and then financing at 2.99%. (As long as they can support the monthly payments.) The interst you pay on the financing is less than the interest you earn on the investment and the difference is profit. Look up the "Law of Opportunity Cost". |

WARNING....THIS IF YOU TRY DOING WHAT I AM AOBUT TO POST YOU COULD END UP IN JAIL OR HURT OR DEAD. If you really want to "stick it to the man" 1. walk in to the showroom floor of a H_D shop and jump on the bike you choose and ride it threw the front glass and flip them off as you are doing a wheely down the road. 2. Find out what bank the dealer uses Rob it and then run in to the dealer and pay cash for it and save the thousands of dollars they wont get from you paying cash as opseed to finnacing the bike and then they will really be a**ed out when they find out you payed for the bike with money that was already theres. Now thats the real way to stick it to the man. |
