Hey guys, the lense on my light is broken, must have caught a rock. Been thinking about trying to find a headlamp from a Breva 1100, I think the oval shape would look awesome and it seems to be about the right size - so I wouldn't need to modify my fly screen to make it look right. Anyone ever looked into this light before? I really don't want to fool with big wiring changes but am willing to do some wiring work...

Open to suggestions that do not include the twin light options, thanks!

well, I was looking at the V-rod light myself... already have dual lights on mine.

Big wiring changes?

There are 3 wires, black, white, yellow...

hi, lo, ground...(not in that order)..

Anyway, is that a projector lense in that housing?

The only real issue I see, would be the mounting bracket, which, honestly, shouldnt be hard at all....

Yes it is a projector type beam. They will work. I got a buddy that owns a Guzzi shop so if you need dimensions I can get them.

I bet that Guzzi light is expensive with a capital X. I think it would look insanely good on a tuber, though.

Do it, man. DO IT...

... then post pics.

I'm wondering now if the bezel and socket assembley on the Guzzi would fit in a stock tuber headlamp shell.

It would still be Xpensive I bet.

Every time I am tempted to upgrade my X1 lights, I remember that my first bulb lasted 50,000 miles and was $11 to replace at an autoparts store.
I am just too cheap/lazy to go through with anything like that.

I am not trying to say that this project is foolhardy, rather, I am just saying that I admire your

Matt, I would LOVE dimensions on that lamp, hook it up buddy! I wonder how much they are, expensive can be a relative term...

DJ and all, thanks for your input. I have considered the vrod headlamp which is not to pricey, like $75 of so, but it is smaller that our stock lamp and I really don't want to do any body work to make the finish look right to me, when I eventually finish working on this bike (ha!) I want it to look clean and refined.

Chase, I was concerned about wiring due to their being several bulbs as far as I can tell with that projector beam.

I'll check it out on Thursday as I'll be working the counter at the shop. Try to find a price on new and a used bucket.

Well, the way I did it...

Ran yellow to one light, and white to the other..

The black is common/ground, so, spliced in the grounds from each light, into the one common...

We only run either hi or lo, not both... so, its not over taxing the wire.

If I was to set it up to run both at the same time, I would step the wiring up a bit..

Other than that, I am running a 55w lo and 100w hi... and no issues.

Still light's them both up?

If you are talking abouit the passing trigger, yeah, lights'em both up....

BUT, its only momentary, so, not worried about lover loading the ground...

I had ONE issue, about only having one light on...

Had basically tell the inspector to go the Buell dealership, and mess with those lights...

Okay here you go, 8 inches wide 9 inches in height. 55/65 watt bulbs. Odd mounting that may give you alittle problem. You may be able to see it in the pics you posted. Has a notch in side of bucket that receives the side plate the bolts to lower fork clamp/stem. I know something can be made for it though. Retail is 250 brand new. I tried a spares place we have known about that specializes in Guzzis. No luck. You may check out a few auctions on fleabay to get one. (none listed now) Maybe if you can find a j yard that deals in bikes only. We have a few here in Ohio. Let me know if you'd like me to look. I happen to think it would look great. Now the older Breva 750 has a round bucket with 2 bulbs in it. Similar mount to ours. 7 inch round but HID bulbs. That will cost 150 for it new. Let me know if I can help out.

Sweet, thanks Matt, $250, that's kind of a lot, I may look for a direct (Buell) replacement in the classifieds and on the bay. We have one bike yard here that I know of, I would be surprised to see any Guzzi's there though. Our headlights are 8" aren't they? If you think there's hope in finding one you are certainly welcome to check around. As a matter of fact I'd really appreciate it but it seems like you've done a lot already.

I have occasionally checked the bay for that guzzi lamp but have never seen one listed. I imagine there's a enthusiast bord for those guys somewhere, maybe I'll try and dig one up if things are slow at work.

Don't really like the round lamp that the 750 has, although I've only seen the current model not the older one.

I think that 1100 lamp would look really good, will have to see about getting one eventually but cannot justify the price, I put in a lot of overtime but just don't want to pay that much for a mostly cosmetic part, I imagine the projector makes good light but still...

Chase, thanks for the feedback on the wiring, I don't mind electrical work but do get a bit anxious about things getting complicated, my last bike held a big junction and harness in the headlight pod, might have been fuses in there too...

I'll make some calls on Friday to the yards we get stuff from. As for enthusiasts boards I know they have a news letter thats printed with classified ads. I'll dig around and get back to you. As for doing alot, I like helping people so, its my pleasure. I might even learn something from it too. C-ya......Mattu

Yeah, my 85 kawi did too....

IIRC, there is some wiring in teh headlight housing, BUT, you clean all that up... I dont have blinkers or anything... so...

BUT, I just cleaned it up nice with loom, and heat shrink....

Not bad at all... and I HATE wiring...

The benenfits outweighed the pain...

Main benefit, being able to see more the 3 feet in front of the bike...

Well I checked with South Valley HD, just out of curiosity, yesterday after dropping a spare header off to HPC for silver ceramic coating (woo-hoo).

Buell sells the new headlight assy for $135, cannot buy just the lense.

Think the v-rod unit will be way too small, and the price has gone up on that too, I assume since they put new prices on Buell parts a few years ago they raised HD parts as well.

That price for the Guzzi light doesn't look quite so bad any more...

(sending off my Showa shock to Aftershocks for rebuild in about an hour, looking forward to riding on a weight specific spring and better valving! Current shock on the bike is also blown and I STILL have been putting off the tranny work, I'll maybe call my mechanic friend about it today though ...seems like I spend a lot of money on my days off, maybe that's why I usually just live at work!)

The V-Rod headlamp on a Buell is not such a bad idea. It ought to look pretty cool. Bare in mind that it uses the same size headlamp [5.74" Dia.] as the Sportster. A small amount of machining, drilling and tapping would be required on the upper triple tree for proper fitting. My 06 Sporty's light is actually quite adequate at night. Personally I will probably just install a Custom Chrome 7" headlamp on my Buell's lower triple tree. All that is required is a 3/8" mounting hole.

I've thought about putting an OEM Harley lamp in my S1W. The only problem I've seen with that swap (to the current style clear lens) is the headlight is less visible to oncoming traffic than the old style H4 serrated lens. When I'm on a new bike and it's pointed at the showroom glass or something, the headlight doesn't look as "on" in the reflection as the old type does...so cars would have even more excuse to say "I never saw him". That said, I did make the conversion on my 96 FLHP on all three lights (headlight and passing lamps) and wow, they do work better. I'm a little more comfortable behind three of them than just one, though.

I have seen an M2 with a VRSC "droopy boob" headlight installed, it looked pretty cool. You can also get a dual bulb light for HDs that fits in the 7" round housing, its an accessory upgrade. Either 2 halogen bulbs, or one with true HID low beam and halogen high beam. Pricey...but very nice, I've seen them in action.

The only good thing about a VROD is that the headlight looks great on a Buell.

Great picture, that bike looks sweet! Looks a lot like the (Cagiva) Raptor - a very sexy motorcycle.

I want to keep my stock (X1) windscreen though since I do ride long stretches and I don't think the lines of the vrod light and x1 screen will work right together. I really just want a bolt on option right now.

Dave, Thanks, I'll take that PN to my dealership, or maybe check one of our sponsors and see if they'll get it for me.

I still hope to put that Guzzi lamp on my bike.

That would be a BMW dealer.. It is the same lens as my 1978 BMW R80/7. If you go to a Buell dealer you have to buy the assembly.
