Guys, I own a 2003 Firebolt XB9 and I am moving to Texas. I have lived in Albany, GA for five years and do to my hectic work schedule I have not been able to ride the bike much. I love my bike. I had a 2002 Buell Blast that I recently sold. My uncle who is now living with my grandmother was supposed to take the Blast off of my hands a year ago, but got incarcerated. He doesn't know how to ride and I thought that it would be the perfect bike for him. Too late now because I sold it. Well, I began moving and the first things I had shipped to grandma's was my living room set and Firebolt. My uncle saw the bike and is in love with it and wants to take over the remaining payments on it and learn to ride it because he does not want it to sit up, or have me struggle with the payments while I am establishing myself down there. This is my first real bike and I love it. I have lots of time to ride her now and I don't want to sell it, or allow him to LEARN to ride it. It is not a learners bike in my opinion and I have no problem with the bike sitting up until I get there. How do I relay this to my uncle without sounding like an ungrateful/horrible nephew? | ||

Just simply tell him after some thought you would like to keep your ride And offer to help him find a good bike to learn on because your bike is not the type that a person new to riding should be learning on because of Power, torque and cost of replacement parts due to accidents? Just my .002 | ||

You can tell him that you are attached to it because it is your first "real" bike and you don't want to regret selling it This should find some resonance in anyone that has ever sold a vehicle that they loved. I know I have had a couple of cars...and bikes I wish I had never sold. | ||

You ain't his Dad, and he's not a kid. Tell him: 1) I like that bike and want to keep it, thanks anyway. 2) Thats probably not the right bike to learn on, but you will be happy to help him find a great learner, then later pick the kind he really wants after he has a year or two of experience and knows the kind of style he really prefers. Suggest he start on a dual sport. If he wants an R1 as a first bike, tell him it's a bad idea and why, but his decisions and his actions aren't your problem. | ||

What really sucks here is that my stuff should have been put in storage because that was where I paid to have it delivered. My uncle would never have seen it and even worse end up with the keys to it. | ||

"even worse end up with the keys to it." Do you have to be reminded what is THEFT in the State of GA. It's your bike, don't "wuss" out with your uncle. Call the cops if it doesn't get delivered where it is supposed to go in the exact condition and mileage you left it in. It's up to you really, no one else. | ||

You need to get your bike and keys ASAP. If you uncle has no experience in riding bikes, he doesn't need to start on YOUR Firebolt. How long before you get to TX? Is there another family member that would be willing to at least go and get the keys so that you uncle can't take it out for a ride? This is your bike, credit and liability that is at risk, not your uncles. If he doesn't understand that, then you really owe him no explanation in my opinion. Best of luck on your move and I hope you resolve this quickly. | ||

Ulywife, My uncle that moved me to TX left him with the keys. According to my cousin he has already been trying to figure out how to start it. I'll be in Texas by the end of the week. | ||

my bike is an 04 XB12R and this is my first bike I bought it may 10th I have 4,000 miles on her and no problems yet I ride every day at least 30 miles. I dont see why this guy cant learn on your bike. but yea let him get his own unless you sell yours and gut an 1125 R  (Message edited by bayou_flyer on July 18, 2007) | ||
