Well after 7 years of riding demo Buells for free I was left Buelless after opening my archery business. Yes, I could "borrow" Kandie or Bobbie's XB9S bikes whenever I wanted but it was just not the same. Plus, I am a Firebolt guy. Earlier this week I was at Silver Eagle HD/Buell, my old stomping ground and they had just taken in a 2003 XB9R on trade. It was one I had originally sold when it was new. Only 8600 miles, all stock except for a Jardine pipe and had brand new Pilot Powers on it. I asked Troy "how much"? He shot me a price and for the next few days I thought and thought about this bike. But, being a new business owner I was not really planning on buying it. I happened to mention it to Kandie on Thursday and she just said, "if that's the bike you want, I'll get it for you, it will be your 7th anniversary present"! WOW! I have the best wife in the world! So, the deal was made and today after I closed the shop Kandie and I went out to the Buell shop and picked up my new bike. We rode it over to Bobbie's house so she could check out my new wheels and then decided to ride out to the archery shop to get my digital camera so we could share some pictures with Badweb. Well, leaving the last stop light between Waterloo and La Porte City, I hit 2nd gear and for a moment I thought I had missed a gear. Yep, the belt broke! I didn't even get to ride my first wheelie on it yet! So, I coasted to the side of the road, Kandie had already passed me so it took her a few minutes to come back looking for me. We had to leave my new bike on the side of the road, go to La Porte and get my truck and a ramp. Then we hauled it to the archery shop, I have a 3 stall long garage there and unloaded it and put it away til Monday when I can get a new belt for it. It sucked that I only got to ride it about 8 miles but it feels good to be on a Firebolt again! Thanks Kandie, I love you! |

You need to upgrade to the 04+ pulleys and an 06+ belt. Our sponsors carry all this. A good place to start is in the sponsors section. Go to the Appleton Buell section and click on the "Andy I need it now thread". Ya know, with the archery shop & all.. I kinda figured you'd convert over to a Uly decked out in camo. |

Congrats Dave!!! Sorry you only got to drive it 8 miles before the belt breaking. Maybe you can do a little more riding with us when we come down again at the end of August. I should have my bike back and fixed by then. Again, congrats and have fun with it! Chad |

You know Dave, there is a guy named Court on here, might be able to get you in touch with Buell Cstomer Service over this apparent flaw! Might even get parts to you faster. You know, I blame the original salesman for selling that pile and putting it onthe road to unsuspecting potential owners. --Sean |

Dave, does your Firebolt have the orange lettering or the blue? Sharp looking motorcycle, I saw several white XB9's at homecoming, very popular color! In fact Buell is now making a white 2008 XB12R Firebolt with the blue rims. They had one on the assembly line while we were at the homecoming plant tour. Don |

Hey Dave, you could always convert it to chain drive and never have to worry about breaking a belt again Of course you know white is the fastest color so I'm not surprised that the belt couldn't handle it |

Best of luck an congratulations on a fine motorcycle.as i was slowly scrolling down the thread,my first thought for a post was to mention ( while viewing the first photo) the belt is bad. Of course,we all know about the first generation belt. You'll do fine with your repair. |

Congrats! Now you can ride to Homecoming next year and help celebrate Buell's 25th with us! Where'd you get a Buell Pocket T-shirt? They're harder to find than objective Buell articles in Motorcyclist. |

Thanks everyone. Replacing the belt is no big deal. At least I know it will be done right. I was actually thinking, Hmmmm, new tires, wonder who did them? Wonder if they handled the belt correctly? Guess not. I'll get a belt tomorrow, if Silver Eagle has one (they better give me a really good deal on one) or I'll call Andy and have him send me one. I'll be leaving the Jardine on at least until it tears apart, then replace it with something else. Maybe a Drummer, I have the stock mufflers off Kandie and Bobbie's to use for that, or a D+D, or, I know a muffler guy, I might have him make me a custom, one of a kind "Dave" exhaust. I also need to get a 0 Gravity windshield, frame pucks and a tank bag for it. I already have Dark Horse Moto sliders for the rear. I didn't even test ride it before I bought it. It is white with orange logos. I have the choice to swap it all for red 12R plastics but I think I am just going to leave it white. It has a ding in the front wheel from being laid down so I'll be looking for a front wheel. It is also missing some bolts, here and there, you know, the ones that tend to fall out if you don't maintain your bike well. Of course I also need to give it a really good once over and service everything. I bought it "as is" and did not have them run it through service at the dealership. Crusty, That shirt is one of the Dave's Buy, Fly and Ride promo shirts I had made. I do not think I have any left or i would send you one. I'll look around, if I find one I will PM you for your address. |

Way to go, Dave. You'll have to stop over to Gearhead's and we can all go for a ride sometime. It was great seeing your shop the other day, I'll stop down again. |

Great to see you are back on a Buell. Just didn't seem right to be riding one when you weren't. Why don't you get yourself a chain? Saintly's conversion is less than an 04 belt conversion, lets you change gear, and makes changing tires a snap.

Sweet! You look really happy in those pics, even with a snapped belt and the bike in the truck, you're grinning ear to ear. |

Congrtas on the Buell. Being somewhat new here, you made a comment about "putting the belt on right". Could someone enlighten me as to what thats all about? |

65460 - the belts must not be flexed improperly. If you bend them backwards or twist them when you are installing them, they will fail prematurely. Brad... |

65460 you do not need to be "as" concerned with your bike. It was the 03 ones you gotta be really careful with. Stopped at Gearheads place and borrowed his Pit Bull stand so i can swap it out tomorrow, if my local dealer has one in stock. |
