Ya'll are wrong, actually. They are Iron crosses, not Maltese crosses...and are a symbol of valor...still flown today. Yes, the Nazi's of WWII also used Iron Crosses on aircraft, vehicles, and as a military decoration. This is a Maltese Cross

Next all y'all will be onto the stars and bars of the confederate. How many times have we seen that on a bike/truck/68 charger ? And of course, The south will rise again logo? There are people still pi$$ed off about that war. There was another one... American by Birth, Southern by the Grace of God. Me? I am scottish and live in the north, so keep the flames to yourself, just an observation that I see ALOT of Conferederate stuff even up in Washington |

Dale Earnhardt is in league with Chevrolet to keep Hitler's brain alive in a jar so they can install it in a robot body for World War III. I'd remove the SS badge but keep the iron cross mirrors for the simple reason that I have a tank for an American fighter theme:

the iron cross is still used on things with the german army even today so why would the iron cross be a bad thing? |

The iron cross and the maltese cross have the same root meaning and origin, and are interchangeable. The Knights of Malta (Knights Of Saint John) were the Vatican's own period Marine Corps. The Iron Cross was in use long before the fall of the Weimar Republic. Relax, kids. |

The media uses those images in invoke a strong response. Be it the iron cross, SS, or the Confederate flag. After years of the media using the strong images the sheep can only conform to it. |

And, I dont mean to not be proud of your heritage, but is there isnt a German i know thats proud of what the nazi's accomplished. There are plenty of anti-Semites in Germany and the rest of Europe. Actually, it's on the increase. |

The Iron Cross in concert with the SS on the tail of the bike is what puts it over the edge. If the owner had one or the other he would be fine. Of course maybe that is the look he was after.... |

Its as if you read the whole thread and my comments to come up with that statement rather than giving me a history lesson on the iron or maltese cross! You must be a simple sheep like me!

Well I like the bike but I would have to see it closer to find out if they are really ss stickers or just lightning bolts. I thought about buying the bike but I think I'll wait for an 08 xb, if I would get it I would probably take the stickers off anyway just to avoid any problem and maybe even the mirror but not because they are iron cross but because they belong more on custom cruisers then that kind of bike, but thats just my opinion. |

When i looked into the meaning of the German looking Maltese cross, (as displayed by Americans), it was to show that we fought in WW2 and kicked their asses. The vets that came home were proud of their victory and having the enemies symbols was a way to boast. -thats just what I came across. BUT, I believe nowadays they are taken by the lay person as being hateful. |

Yes, I had no idea that the iron cross was used alot in the biking world and its users did not intend for it to mean anything related to nazis. Thanks to everyone in the thread for pointing out that the iron cross is not a racist symbol. |

With every agreeing that the whole cross/ss thing is bad. How about exploring another questionable symbol? What if the bike was painted with a Confederate flag? or maybe the slogan the south will rise again? Just curious........I have my own thoughts but will reserve them till a little later in the thread. |

Good thinking, yo know now that I think of it, Confederate flag sticka's would be the perfict finishing touch for the ole bike. Thats it, so ovvious, how could I have missed it. I'll take care of that sometime tomorow they will be on the bike before it is put up for the night. |

Where I live currently, its hard NOT to associate the Confed Flag with racism... With the individuals flying said flag from their truck, throwing empty beer cans at ANYONE thats not CLEARLY white and inbred... well... That being said, I can read, and can ferret out info, and I know what the Flag SYMBOLIZES... Not that its anyones business, BUT, I have a huge Iron Cross on my stomach.... been there... well, I wasnt 18 when I got it... And there are other tats that are now covered.... I am currently still active, and there are rules to that... I get dirty looks all that time when I go to the lake with my daughter, or the beach... If someone asks, then I will explain.. and a few HAVE asked... usually with the response.. "I didnt know THAT.." The media prey's on the simple minded people that believe what they see/hear without question. I question everything.... Personally, I like the bike. Chase |

Symbols are just images...it does not mean someone is a nazi...those symbols were around way before the nazis were..and those are iron crosses, maltese crosses have rounded edges...like the firefighter symbol. |

Hey chase, do you by any chance have any SS tattoos on you as well? Not dodging the question, but, does it matter? I am NOT nazi/racist, or ANYTHING like that. All am I right now, is a single father, going through a divorce/custody case, and voicing my opinion. For the record, NO, I dont have any SS on me.. This has been a pretty good thread though.} Chase |

And, I dont mean to not be proud of your heritage, but is there isnt a German i know thats proud of what the nazi's accomplished. Being at 50% "real" german with my grandfather once riding in the NSKK first thing that comes to mind is : But what about the autobahn ? Whenever I get out of the plane in Frankfurt, i walk towards the budget rent station, the guy already smiles when he sees me - as I walk up and always say: What is the fastest thing you got for me today ? Out of the airport, on the bahn and VOLLGAS. Disclaimer: i am not stating a political opinion as this is as nonsense as discussing views about religion, however during the NAZI regime the whole infrastructure still in place today was built, not one person was unemployed etc etc. I have to agree it was rather tactless to use jewish gravestones as a basis for said autobahn in some spots, but nonetheless .... I guess I am trying to say we accomplished some things worth noting and maybe to be proud of and not everything was as senseless as "all that other stuff". You have to remember that Americans have a very special way of reporting on history, you know the saying that history is written by those who win or something like that ... |

When I spoke of the Nazi regime's accomplishments I was speaking of inturning people in prison camps, forced slavery, asassination of government officials and of course the holocaust. I was stationed in Germany for 6 years. I loved the country and its infrastructure and its people. I was speaking of the war crimes and the deliberate mass murder of hundreds of thousands of innocent people. That being said, by all means be proud of who you are and your lineage. I simply look at it from the point of view that those insignia would and will offend someone somewhere. Maybe I try too hard to be PC. Its your bike do what you want, just be prepared to deal with the repurcussions. |

Something like that... yeah. I wonder how history would have been written otherwise. Instead of giving you one star to show my distaste for your ridiculous post, I prefer to say it like this with my name clearly attached to a comment. I, Daniel Joseph Kaplan, will do everything in my power to keep myself out of any situation where we could potentially meet. This thread needs to be put out of it's misery. It's attracting flies. Now that's tactless. |

I personally would defend anyone's right to express themselves. We are all judged by how we appear to others. If we display things that are popularly viewed to have a particular meaning, then others see them as such. No matter what you actually mean to say. If one wants to be understood then one shouldn't use things that could be misinterpreted. Butch |
