I just test rode another 07 the other day and it reminded me how hard my 03 clutch is. So...since I think I need a new clutch soon, What parts do I need to order for the 07 to upgrade mine? And how hard is it to install when you're already doing the clutch plates? I will probably have the clutch installed but just want to know how much extra $ I should expect to pay for having these extra parts installed. |

I just received the Mueller clutch from American Sportbike. I'll let you know how easy it is to install after this weekend. I'm so looking forward to the new part! |

See this post. I have been using the Clutchlite for about 4,000 miles and highly recommend it. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/280358.html?1180029980 Posted on Thursday, May 24, 2007 - 12:25 pm: -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ I don't know if anyone has installed this on a Buell before, so I figured I would share my experience... I just installed the Custom Chrome Clutchlite on my '03 XB9S. Wow what a great part! The Clutch pull is 25-30% lighter than stock and just as smooth. It is the same principal as the Muller, but much less expensive. It's a replacement Inner Ramp for the Clutch Release Mechanism. It's a high quality part, that is a 1 for 1 replacement for the stock inner ramp (no extra pieces like the Free Spirits). The install took about 10 minutes. The hardest part was removing the retaining ring that holds the inner & outer ramps together. I adjusted per the manual, and it worked great...no slips or drag. The best part is you can find it online for under $40. I don't believe any sponsors are selling them....so do a Google Search It comes in Soft, X-Soft, and XX-Soft. I used the Soft and it feels very good. Posted on Saturday, June 16, 2007 - 12:10 am: -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Update: After 2500 miles it is holding up just fine. I haven't even needed to adjust the clutch. |

Only different in clutch on 2007 from 2003 is the spring. It is $24.00 from HD but you have to pull the clutch apart to put it in. |

Pretty sure the part # for the clutch spring is 37934-06. Maybe someone else can confirm? I used the Mueller part on my 04 XB12 - made huge difference in clutch pull. This winter I will add the spring as well for an almost effortless clutch pull. |

i'm running the Free Spirits 'Soft Clutch'. easy/quick to install, costs less than the Muller (~50 US) and works fantastic. i've got a couple thousand miles with it on, no issues. |

Would just replacing the clutch spring be enough? Buell completely redid the transmission in '06 to go along with the lighter clutch. The older transmission may require the stronger spring to work properly... |

The softer spring may be the reason they went to a different oil in the transmission. (less slippage) If someone in the know informs us that the softer clutch spring will perform well when changing to the special oil, then that seems to be the way to go. |

Like Typeone,I'm running the Free Spirits 'Soft Clutch'. Very easy & quick to install and works perfectly. My former mechanic (I'm doing all the work now)thought it felt like it was hydraulic. |

Maybe its me, but i have never thought the clutch was that stiff. I wish i could try someone who has done the switch so i could check it out. I have never had an fatigue due to clutching and i ride the dragon all the time. |

Save the trouble, buy a new 1125R with the hydraulic clutch. At least that's the excuse I'm giving my wife. Oh yeah, I don't believe the only diff. in 03 to 07 is the spring, there is one or two other little pieces two. I about 99% positive. This has been a topic many, many times. Search it and you'll find where someone listed all the parts needed to upgrade. The best way is the "Free Spirits" route I believe, and cheap. |

Another vote for the Free Spirits soft clutch - cheap (enough), easy (to install) and works great! |

Muller Power Clutch works great. I know someone who tried the FS soft clutch and said that the Muller is better and easier to install. |

Damnut, It may be a tad easier to install, But I don`t think either is hard.... Seems many have used the FS. and alot cheaper and no complaints there...So hook me up with a few places to get the FS. system people??? |

hmm, the Clutchlite product is interesting. thats not the one that was determined to not work well with the XB Buells is it? id have to dig the post up from a year+ ago. one of the Harley products that said it was Buell compatible too didn't end up working so well. but i dont remember if it was that Clutchlite product. i only went with the FS SC because it was cheap and Matt was running one in their racebike without issue. he's also sold tons and never had a single complaint. not saying which to buy, its your decision, just adding some input. |

Question regarding the Custom Chrome Clutchlite - how do you decide which version to get? Is there such a thing as too soft? How does soft compare to XX-soft? Just curious |

Buell's (not sure about the 1125R) use a Ball and Ramp Clutch Release Mechanism. The Muller, Free Spirits, and the Clutchlite make the clutch pull lighter by increasing leverage which also reduces clutch movement (too much reduction is a bad thing and will cause the clutch to drag). The Muller and Clutchlite accomplish this with a a shallower angle on the inner clutch ramp, the FS achieves the same effect with an extension arm. The Muller replaces both the inner and outer clutch ramp (and the balls), while the Clutchlite is an inner ramp that keeps the stock outer ramp. The effect is the same. Question regarding the Custom Chrome Clutchlite - how do you decide which version to get? I guessed. As far as I know, I was the first person to us the Clutchlite on an XB...so I took a chance a picked the Soft. Now I know that the Soft is about the same as the Muller and the FS--about 25% reduction. My Clutch is noticeably softer, very smooth, and had required NO adjustment in over 4,000 miles. I have had NO slipping or drag. Is there such a thing as too soft? How does soft compare to XX-soft? Yes, if you go too soft you could reduce clutch movement too much and the clutch could drag (not disengage completely). Not Sure. |

Does the Clutchlite come with install instructions? |

}Does the Clutchlite come with install instructions? You disassemble the clutch release mechanism per the service manual, then reassemble with the Clutchlite instead of the stock inner ramp. It should take no more than 15 mins. |

The Muller, Free Spirits, and the Clutchlite seem to give us something for nothing, and we should all know that never happens. |

Old_man - How do you arrive at that conclusion? I paid money, received a quality product (as advertised), installed it (with ease) and it works - perfectly. How does that "seem to give us something for nothing"? (Message edited by kedo on July 13, 2007) |
