Jp,what's your plan to lift the bike?? Mine came off easy enough.Follow the procedure though. |

The front caliper is prone to ding the wheel thus chipping it.I'd remove it altogether in the future to avoid this.It just wants to happen(damage). The rear requires following procedure. |

I'm envisioning a few blocks and some rope to lift the bike and secure it while the wheels are off, most likely I'll be doing it in the basement as the shed roof is barely holding itself up. Greg...I've always noticed that your wheels are ALWAYS squeeky clean...how the hell do you manage that? I'm planning on doing a full cleaning (I'm sure some tooth brushes will be involved) and am wondering if there is a coating or something that you use to help keep them clean...or is it mostly non-stock brake pads that generate less dust? |

My two cents to your question for Greg: Pads are a BIG part of it. It'll be worse when you first replace them because the new pads (sintered, right?) are scraping off the old residue and shining your rotors up, but after your next cleaning it won't be that bad. When I wash my bike I always do the wheels first, which can take up to an hour, then I wash the bike. Just the nature of it. I've read that Kevlar or Carbon Kevlar pads will throw less dust, but they cost more and I don't know if they provide better stopping power... |

I was thinking about honing the discs before remounting and putting in the new pads...has anybody done this yet? |

The wheels on the X1 no longer are treated with anything other than plain old car wash.I was hooked for awhile on S100 but it always hazed up the finish. Now i treat them to NeverDull wadding polish every couple weeks to keep the shine. An hour covers them both. The XB only gets plain car wash.I'm very pleased at how easy they are to shed grime. IXNAY on the honing of the rotor.Unless you've worn the pads of all the friction material and have gouged the rotor it'll be fine. The front rotor should never exceed a minimum thickness of 0.1800" as stated in the manual. |

JP......Leave the rotor alone, The new pads (hopefully NOT stockers) will take care of everything. EBC pads I heard are good, My lyndalls are not impressive to me, They do fade when they get hot HOT... Just bring your bike over my house and we will do it all at once for ya. As long as the axle comes out nicely all will be done in a few hours... |

They also showed some clips from the motorcycle 'art show' that was in the Gugenheim museam...Buell bikes were in the exhibit!!! |

I may actually be down there earlier now...nobody else wants to climb so it'll be a shorter trip to the crag than I thought. I've been trying to get down there for the past 2 months to see the woman on her night shift at Pottersville Pub. As for where to ride... ...anywhere would do. After a ride a stop in at the Pub to chat for a bit, have one drink and then head home. Maybe some vittles at some point as well, I'm sure I'll be getting hungry at some point. |

I've been lurking. A little busy today plus I had on of my ocular migraines this afternoon, probably from my eyes bouncing between programs so much. Not so much a headache, but I go about 30% blind in my periphery for a half hour, then a slight, nagging headache and exhaustion for the rest of the day. Luckily, I drove today 'cause I had to haul some crap to the office so I don't have to look forward to the Buell thump on an achy brain. I won't be on the bike today. On the plus side, (although she's in the sandbox) it's my tenth Anniversary, AND I should be receiving my Rizoma mirrors today. Anything cooking for the weekend? |

I gotta get off the computer...heading out to climb. Call my cell if you're looking for me 508-320-4625. If I don't hear from anybody...I'll plan on meeting up with Jim at his place (Jim - call my cell & let me know when you be home...leave a message...I may be on the rock). Just an idea...Greg, meet me at Jim's, we go to Wendels for wings then scoot through Somerset for a drink at Pottersville and then we can head up to Uxbridge... If you guys decide on something else...leave a message on my phone...I turn it off so it doesn't bother anybody while I'm climbing. I'll call back when I'm off the rock. |

Whatever's cool with me. The loop would be my preference. I have to do some safety wiring in the morning, but that shouldn't take too long. Tonight I am going to geek out and watch the new Harry Potter movie. |
