My original thread “it happened for the forth time disappeared" and I would like to get some opinions. Here is a little background. About a month ago my Firebolt left me stranded for the 4th time in 2 years and it was just out of warranty. When I got it home I recharged the battery and checked the stator and it seemed fine. Normaled everything back up and it was charging at 13-13.8V at the battery. I talked to Buell about my troubles and they said they would cover it under warranty since it has been a recurring problem. I thought that was really nice of them. I made an appointment with Glendale HD to bring it in on Sunday June 24, this was Wednesday June 20. When I got home I took the bike out for a ride to see if it would run down the battery, 40 miles later everything is fine. I added a volt gauge I got from American Sport Bike and then rode the bike to work on Thursday and Friday. On Friday the voltage dropped to 12 for about 3 minutes and then came back up, that is the only thing out of ordinary that happened. When I dropped it off I explained to them it died on me, I checked the stator, noticed the regulator connector was a little melted and when I plugged everything back in it has been charging fine for the past 3 days I rode it. The following week I didn't hear anything from them plus I went on vacation at the end of the week for a week so I couldn't get my bike then anyways. Yesterday I called checking on the status and the guy had to find my file so an hour later he calls me back saying it should be done tomorrow and gives me the name of the person to speak with. Today I get a call saying my voltage regulator was plugged in backwards, main fuse was blown, and the voltage regulator plug was a little melted. So they replaced the connector, fuse, buttoned everything back up and seem to be working fine. Not bad for 2 weeks worth of work. Correct me if I am wrong but nothing powers up if the main fuse is blown, right? Also how would you plug the voltage reg. in backwards? It has been a couple of weeks but from what I remember the connector is a weather pack connector with one clip on it that you have to push to disconnect it from the harness and you would have to be retarded to force it together the wrong way. Would it even charge if it were reversed? Does this make any sense? | ||

You are correct, it does not make sense. I have accidentally shorted out my main fuse and that makes the bike DEAD. The regulator plug also connects only one way. | ||
