I broke yet ANOTHER side pod yesterday! For a helmet that is supposed to be as good as Arai claims that their helmet is, the quality is horrible! I even followed the directions from, "duh", Nicky Hayden. So that makes 4 so far. |

Have had great use with my ICON. Maybe you want to switch? Maybe try their website and see if they have a customer relations you can bitch to. Might help. |

That's the only thing that IS positive. The customer service has been fantastic. I don't know which is better. Having a product with crappy customer service but never breaks or having a product that breaks frequently but has good customer service. I just can't understand designing something like this? |

I have nearly all Arai helmets and have never had a problem. Something is not right. They got if fixed pronto, I'm betting. |

What are you doing when the side pods break? I've worn Arai helmets for several years and know people that have worn them for much longer than that. I suspect it is shield changes that are the culprit. The arai helmets require the owner to develop A "FEEL" for how hard and where to apply pressure to swap the shields. I should know, I've been handed other peoples (a friend of a friend etc etc...)helmets at the track to swap the shields for a while now because I have the proper skill set ;) |

They will send me new side pods. I just don't understand why, when I follow the directions, that they snap off when I change shields. It is a Profile and it's the frost silver. Maybe there is something wrong with the production run on that model and color? I'll call them again. I have two extra left pods, but I am out of rights. They did at least send me extras. It's just frustrating. |

The first two side pods never had the shield replaced or swapped but developed hairline cracks in 3-4 places each starting from the edges. The cracks began to appear within 45 days of purchase. I received two replacements from the dealer. The cracks didn't appear. I broke the first side pod swapping the shield. I was being gentle since I had never done it before and was concerned about breaking the pod. I bent the shield so as not to put pressure on the side pod, but it snapped off anyway. The Service Pavillion sent me a left one. overnight. Great folks. The Arai Service folks called me the next day and they sent me both a left one as well. They called back in a few days and sent me a left and right one as a spare. So I used the left one the Service Pavillion sent me. That left me with two lefts and a right. Last night the right one broke. Both the left and right broke at the top notch point. I was able to use the spare right. I was extra careful because I know how fragile they are. I'm a hamfisted lout of a man. Understood. I'm trying to be as careful as I possibly can be. Does anyone else have the frost silver? Are you having these issues? I will call the customer service folks tomorrow and see if they will send me another right or two. I just don't see the benefit of such a fussy mechanism. The helmet doesn't appear to be any quieter as a result of the side pod design. I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt, but geez. I bought a CPO car. On the way home, the check engine light came on. The dealer said to bring it back. They looked it over for a week and determined that someone had driven it and downshifted it forcing it above redline. As a result, there where two bent valves. They replaced all of the valves on that side of the engine. Two weeks later, the interior lights went out. Instead of having replaceable bulbs, the entire interior fixture had to be replaced. Two weeks after that, the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. Three weeks after that, the clutch went out. All of this was replaced under the CPO warranty. The service folks were great. It sucked that all of that went bad on a car that was "certified", but I was ok with it. I've had things go bad with the Uly. I've been through 4 XBOX 360's. Last time around with my cell phone, I went through 3 RAZR's before there was one that would work more than a week. Before that, I went through 3 Blackberrys, each with "Runtime Java Error" problems. I have bad luck. I'm pretty patient. I guess I'm just frustrated. I just wonder if there is something wrong with that color or something. |

I have a collection of both Arai and Shoei hats. IMNSHO the Shoei visor system is superior. (Message edited by danger_dave on July 11, 2007) |

I had 3 Arai helmets in the last 5 year (different models) and I never had any problem with them. You are probably doing something wrong without knowing it. |

I've got a long in the tooth Quantum F that I need to replace. The visor mechanism is, uh, well, tempremental. This is the older mechanism (like from around 2001 - HOLY CRAP - I really need a new helmet!) and popping out the visor takes some practice. Although I've had the pods pop off, they've never broken. When the breath guard started to rot (I brush my teeth - honest) or the brow vent fell out or the cheek pad retention tab broke - Arai fixed it without ANY fuss. I gotta go out and get me a new helmet... -Saro |

I had a Bieffe that was a real piece of s**t in all respects. Poor aerodynamics, poor optical quality in visor, poor visor retention, poorly shaped padding, painful forehead pad....etc. That was the last time I mail ordered a helmet. |

Ft_, dude, sounds like you've got a seriously FUBAR'd aura or something! Crap just goes bad around you... I'm having second thoughts about coming up to visit for Buelltoberfest, for fear it might affect my bike! ~SM |

Fear not. Unless I am actually paying for it, there won't be a problem. I think you're right about the aura thing though. I have never had a digital watch last more than 3 months on my wrist. All the screens go black. One year I went through 13 watches. Mechanical watches are all I can wear. |

I just created an account on www.araiamericas.com. It is easy to do and I submitted a trouble ticket to have the lower portion rubber trim, which came off of my GTR helmet, to have it repaired. They wrote back immediately and said they'd fix it and pay for shipping both ways. Nice 5 yr warranty. If you can do w/out that helmet for a couple of days then I'd try sending it back to them. I agree with various difficulties on Arai helmets. Good Luck. |
