oil pump fixed, rev limit raised on 1200, progressive throttle cam (that would help a lot) crank position sensor, Idle air control (computer can control idle speed) even if the 1125R was not introduced it would have been a good year. |

Where do you see a rev limit increase? |

From a news release at buell.com: "For 2008 the Thunderstorm 1203 redline is increased to 7100 rpm from 6800 rpm, giving this engine an even broader powerband, and riders the ability to accelerate longer and downshift at a higher rpm." They beefed up the crankpin and changed to the XBRR type oil pump which allowed the RPM increase. |

I wish I had waited 2 more weeks before I bought my XB9Sx. The improvements seem like that correct some of the complaints most have had. And less maintenance is always a plus. |

New Timing System The timer cover is eliminated, as the engine is now crank timed from a new crank position sensor, which eliminates the need for manual timing, reducing maintenance costs. The ECM actively monitors and adjusts timing based on driving environment. The new sensor makes 30 reads per revolution, compared to the previous two reads per revolution, for more precise control of fuel mapping and timing to conditions. More Robust Crankpins The size of the crankpins is increased to 1.50 inches from 1.25 inches. Oiling System Upgraded A higher-output oil pump supports oiling to the new crankpin area. The new pump is driven off of the crank, a design based on the Buell XBRR production racing motorcycle. A new eight-row oil cooler offers enhanced cooling performance. All oil line ends are now equipped with Jiffy-tite fittings. New DDFI 3 ECM (Engine Control Module) A new ECM with increased computing capacity. DDFI 3 actively controls and monitors the TPS (throttle position sensor), IAC (idle air control), and timing. DDFI 3 automatically zeros the TPS and adjusts fuel metering for smoother idle, eliminating service intervals and reducing the cost of ownership. A new progressive throttle cam and new throttle cables provide smoother throttle input from stops, and less rotation to full throttle. |

>>>I wish I had waited 2 more weeks before I bought my XB9Sx. Simple cognitive dissonance . . . fret not, you can't escape it. I just bought a 2006 Ford F-150 right before the new ones were released. I have to remind myself that the one I got is really good. Ride the bike, enjoy the heck out of it and when you're ready Buell will have something with your name on it. Court |

I, for one, am STOKED by this new iteration of the existing air-cooled mills. If I can *ever* get my wife to get over the one motorcycle wreck I had in my years and years of riding, I'll be getting a new XB12Scg. (I have more thoughts, but already posted them... see my thread: "Thank you, Erik and Hooray for the new 'old' XB12s") |

I wonder if its possible to simply put in the new DDFI 3 ECM in an 07 bike to get the benefit of no more TPS resets? Or does it also require sensor upgrade etc? anyone have an answer for that? Cause damn, the cost of an ECU shouldn't be much more than a handleful of TPS resets at 70 bucks a pop |

So does mean that the TPS reset for exhaust and filter is no longer needed since the TPS resets it self now?? |

A new eight-row oil cooler offers enhanced cooling performance. All oil line ends are now equipped with Jiffy-tite fittings. I suspect those of us with pre-'08 models can't benefit from the other engine upgrades, but I wonder if the oil cooler can be retro-fitted.

"Please tell me this means no more oil weepage around the oil cooler fittings. Please Please Please" So my XB9R is not the only one that does that? Whew. |

I wonder if its possible to simply put in the new DDFI 3 ECM in an 07 bike to get the benefit of no more TPS resets? Or does it also require sensor upgrade etc? It's more complicated than just the ECM. There's a new throttle body with an integrated idle air control (IAC) unit. That's a small bypass circuit under ECU control that allows the idle speed to be varied by the ECU. With that, the throttle can fully close at idle, allowing the ECU to reset the TPS position automatically. Realistically, updating a pre-08 bike to this specification would be a large undertaking. |

Do the 08s have the same heads and valve seals as the 06's? If not what is different? |

"So does mean that the TPS reset for exhaust and filter is no longer needed since the TPS resets it self now??" You wouldn't have needed to do that anyhow. Only if you change the ECM or if the TPS wasn't set properly in the first place. |

Yeah, I meant with the ECM but forgot to mention it. What can ya say, I only run a Blast, but I'm lookin at the 08 Scg now. Actually, the real question is, do ya still need to replace the ECM for exhaust and filter upgrades since they have a new EFI system?? (Message edited by jerzydevil on July 11, 2007) |

Do these changes apply to the 9's also? |

Do these changes apply to the 9's also? With the obvious exception of the RPM increase, yes. The upgrades are for the Thunderstorm platform - both the 1203 and 984. http://www.buell.com/en_us/news_events/newsdetail. asp?news_id=1236 |

Those are nice updates for the XB line. I was already tempted to get a new XB12R. Those improvements might just push me into the dealership. But I can`t believe the XB12R isn`t going to be sold in Europe this year. I hope The XBR will be with us for a while. S1Eric |

Exhaust question. Hi to all :-) I have a stock XB12R 05 and I want to put a ,,,, better exhaust on the bike. I'm thinking of the Termignoni with a K&N filter. I was going to do the ECM also, put have been told it is no benefit. Please, can anyone set me straight? I want a little more noise and a bit more power for road use. Enjoy |
