Is this a Buell manufactured engine or Rotax? Or is it a collaboration effort? Either way I think it is fantastic. I am just curious. Very sexy bike.Good for Buell. Hopefully this will silence a lot of critics, and people will see just how great all of these machines are. |

I asked Erik that question, and he said it is a Buell/Rotax collaboration. It is NOT a Rotax engine. He was very clear about that. Rotax is manfacturering it, but it was co-developed by Buell and Rotax. |

Buell worked with Rotax to design the motor. They made it clear during the dealer meeting that they couldn't have afforded to do this completely on their own. The design is unique to Buell and built by Rotax. |

Even online it says that the engine was built to Buell's specs and is exclusive to Buell. --Sean |

Thanx ya'll, that's what I thought. I find this to be very exciting for Buell. I assume this is going to replace the XB12RR, or are these two different animals altogether. |

I assume this is going to replace the XB12RR Well, this can't race in FX, so it isn't an RR replacement in that sense. The RR was a limited production thing, I think they did just over 50 RRs. I don't think they are planning on doing any more. They are still working on RR improvements though. This is a street legal production race bike. In that sense it, or it's decedents should be around long after the 50 something RRs are retired. |

I think it would be wise to offer both engines for at least another year or two. I would have liked to seen an XBRR street version(with cases that would accept the cassette trans and 4 inch plus cylinders) |

I don't expect Buell to ever abandon the air-cooled lineup. Like Ducati and BMW, they'll expand with more liquid cooled models, but will surely keep the air-cooled lineup too. Why give up market share? |

A better V-twin makes sense and honors the configuration of past Buells. It would have been pretty darn hard to move the Buell platform forward this much while staying with the classic pushrod/OHV engine. This looks like a step in the right direction for Buell to me. Posted on Monday, July 09, 2007 - 01:02 pm: -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ hey JACKBEQUICK....I've owned a Tuono since 2004 with the 998cc Rotax motor......Other than my Buells , this bike has been my all time favorite of the many motorcycles I've owned.....let me say this first , The Rotax motor is Bulletproof!!!!!!!!!! it can be run around town on 3500-6000 rpm , with enough torque to pull away from lights without revving , tool around without a lot of shifting and though its quite cold-blooded on warm-up once its going it is FLAWLESS!!!! But once you get to 7500 rpm....OH CRAP.."XXXXXXX" is what you'll say..!!!! cause all the way to its 10,500 redline , IT"LL RIP YOUR TIGHTLY GRIPPING ARMS OFF!!!!Fluid throttle movements are what you need cause theres no stopping this thing from wanting to rev!!...And thrash the hell out of it and come sliding to a stop...tada!!!continues to idle with NO hint of stalling!No overheat issues , nothing.....just a nice sweet idle......I've already got mine on order and I ALLREADY ORDERED MY PLATE!!!! .................................................. .......MY 1125R............................................. ................... I was sort of curious about the low RPM torque. If you just ease the clutch out it will pull away? I'd sort of expect any V-twin engine of about the same displacement and with carbs to pull in a similar manner. Just wans't sure how the EFI models acted on the low end. I really like it not being necessary to crank up the RPM to get under way. Like the I4 rice rockets with their lower 3,000 to 6,000 RPM that are only good for making noise. The EFI on these things are SO WELL SORTED that other than a slow warmup you will never experience any anomolies at least in this iteration. Oh....and with a set of pipes this motor has a great rumble and an incredible song when on the pipe!! |
