No more endless debates about the benefits and pitfalls of water cooled vs. air-cooled. Ahh! I will miss them. Now we can have two Bad Webs, one that is for the air-cooled boys and one for the water cooled. Kinda like the old air-cooled VWs vs. the water cooled VWs. |

Ustorque, I understand your concerns. I think others here share them. There will be a learning curve on the new engine for sure. Rest assured, there are few places on the planet where you would find more folks with better knowledge allowing support in your efforts to service your own machine than here on Bad Web. From folks I have spoken with who have had the Rotax (if that is in fact what it is) engine, it is not difficult to work on. More complex, but not any more difficult to work on. The biggest difference is in the valvetrain configuration. Is it pushrod hydraulic, OHV? What are we looking at? Obviously there is another system that has been introduced into the mix, coolant. This adds an additional level of complexity. Look at it this way. They can't have made it too complex if they expect HD dealers to provide service. It'll almost HAVE to be idiot proof! |

Is it pushrod hydraulic, OHV? What are we looking at? When the video was up it listed a 10,500RPM redline, so I'm guessing pushrods are out.} |

No more endless debates about the benefits and pitfalls of water cooled vs. air-cooled. I've already seen plenty of posts by the "I'd never buy one of those inferior liquid cooled engines" crowd that are really excited now. |

Monsoon board, in keeping with the bad weather theme. Liquid metal board. Or would that be Mercury board? (faster, too, as in god of speed) Or T-1000 board, you know the liquid metal terminator from Terminator 2. OK, I'm stretching here. |

I've already seen plenty of posts by the "I'd never buy one of those inferior liquid cooled engines" crowd that are really excited now. I don't doubt that. If Buell has it it's good. If Buell doesn't have it it's bad. That's the attitude of some people on this site. And as I said on another post, if this bike is as much as a Ducati, like I assume it will be, those who said a Ducati costs too much will quickly change their mind. Oh and the same can be said for the belt faithfuls who did nothing but bash chains. The hypocrisy of some people on this site just cracks me up. These people are about to make this site hilarious... I think there were several folks here who were thinking in a very small box who realize now that the Elves have a lot more free reign than previously believed. I believe there will be enough room for both air-cooled and water cooled within Buell. I think the debates were more about whether water cooled was necessary for Buell to survive not whether we would buy them if they were available. As I rode today, I thought about the new bike. I also realized that I own a pretty damn good bike now. That said, what does it matter if someone said they would never own a water cooled Buell? Can't someone change their minds given that something never before imagined has been created? The downside of archiving is that 100% of every post ever provided on this board by any member can be recalled and displayed. Do we really want the past post inquisition here on BadWeb? Damn folks, today is one of the happiest days in Erik's and the BMC family's life! I would LOVE to see the ginormous smile on Erik's face tomorrow. I'm sure he couldn't be prouder than if it were one of his own kids! Congrats Erik! Job well done! |

I believe there will be enough room for both air-cooled and water cooled within Buell. Absolutely. If BMW and Ducati can do it successfully, Buell can too. |

>>>>the Elves have a lot more free reign than previously believed. That is an excellent point. You may recall some of my comments when the TT was done about some of the younger engineers having the benefits of participating in the entire development process. They're bearing fruit. I suspect that in the coming days that the excitement about Buells will be joined by excitement about HOW things are happening at Buell. Truly a day for celebration. Court |

We don't know for sure it'll have a chain! When I made a comment about not being able to make a belt wide enough to handle the horsepower of a water cooled engine, Anonymous chimed in with basically "Oh ye of little faith..." |

Now we can have two Bad Webs, one that is for the air-cooled boys and one for the water cooled. Like I said in another thread, I hope this new bike doesn't polarize the Buell community. We've all been so alike in our bikes for so long I would hate to see us fall into the trap of .." my bike is better then your bike" crap. I don't want to go to Buell's 25th Homecoming and see the 1125R riders huddled together. |
