AMI is not far from the track and Hops and the like, on 92/International Speedway Blvd. West of the track, just as you come into Daytona(from the West). It's on the North side of the road. Are you planning a trip to Daytona? |

ok, before i do this, i need some advice i have the supertrapp pipe thats falling apart on everyone, its an outside disk job. supertrapp says they are gonna replace it with a IDS one that isnt for the 95 s2...its for all the other buells though... the pipe is 2" and the inlet on the new one is 2.5" can i get an adapter from 2-2.5 ? and will it affect performance? anyone do this? if so, did you use the chin fairing? i have one on the s2 and i would hate to not use it... any input is appreciated. jason H |

jason H, A sales rep for Supertrapp here, told me they have an adaptor to take them to 2" as that is what the Euro market Buells also come with. I haven't seen it or tried it. Just passing on what I was told. PPiA |

Jason H : I had this adaptor on my SuperTrapp when I bought it (european version). Great torque at low rpm with the 2" header, far better than with the 2.5" header that I tested later on and which largely favored high rpms. I got the best of both worlds with the race header and SuperTrapp. By the way, the adapter makes a very ugly appearance of the header + muffler. The change in diameter is straight, no conical shape or whatever. So one may think that it's a home-made adaptation with home-tools... |

OK, does anybody know how many different models of race cans were made? I bought a nice clean one on eBay, but it doesn't look like it's gonna quite match up with the header on my S1. I need a little expert advice here... r-t |

I put it on, and take it from a guy that had a sheared header stud.... it is definately an upgrade you want to put on. The old design chews through the ears in only a few hundred miles, and you have metal on metal rubbing. Be very carefull to make sure you get a good ground when you relocate the voltage regulator (which is part of the installation of the updated part). Double nut the exhaust header studs with some nice shiny stainless nuts as well, both to help make sure the nuts don't back off, and to make them easy to inspect at a glance as a part of your pre ride inspection. |

SG, IMO the problem with these systems is that the factory tries to solid mount the header to the heads, but rubber mount the rest of the system to the engine. The result is that where the header meets each head, you get a bunch of flexing, which of course loosens the nuts and can even break the studs. When that front muffler mount's rubber bushing wears, and often it wears rapidly, the system moves more and the problem gets worse in a hurry. On my one Buell that has a huge appetite for exhaust parts, I've found that if I stabilize the system, allowing it to move around much less, the bushings last indefinitely and the header nuts don't loosen up. The new front mount doubles up the rubber mounting. Seems to me like this would both extend the life of the bushings as well as stiffen it up some. So it makes sense to me. Personally, I don't double nut the header flanges, just because if the header is moving around enough to cause those nuts to loosen, I want to know about it. I'd much rather have a nut come loose than see a stud break. But not everyone agrees with that logic, some even argue that the system should be loose and swinging free. Do what makes sense to you. Thanks for your insight. I have an S2 with 19+ k on it and the original header bushing. Unfurtunetly i high sided last year and have gotten a S1 exhaust sytem in its place. This will be my first indevor into mix and match. that part was covered under warranty but i don't think it is any more. Before I bought it I just wanted some opinions to see whether I should. SG |

Pumpkin is a 2001 S3T that had her stock muff replaced at purchase with a V&H carbon fiber one...If I replace the current one with it's broken rear bracket it will be the third V&H on the bike since new...All failures have occured at the rear bracket...Previously I had a V&H aluminum muff on my M2 and had no problems with it over three years usage...What to do?...I am considering: 1) putting the stock muff back on, 2) Buell Pro Series Slip-Fit Race Muffler, 3) V&H aluminum muff, 4) another brand carbon fiber muff...I like the idea of a carbon fiber muff as Pumpkin has quite a bit of the feathery stuff elsewhere and it kind of compliments the look and the weight saving doesn't hurt...Any help or personal experiences would be appreciated... racerboy, one solution that has worked well for me in the past is to forget the entire V&H rear mount and tie the muffler directly to the frame muffler mounts via two pieces of strap stainless steel running to the bolts that hold the end cap on the V&H muffler on. The bolts are obviously the side ones, just use longger bolts and some locktite and it works pretty well. Use locktite or you will be losing bolts(don't ask how I know). Bob, AKA FUBOB by Pammy |

Uhh Bob, I know how its hard to appreciate advice given by those close to you but I would shitcan that whole carbon fiber exhaust idea and go with something that can hold up over the long haul. You put a lot of miles on "pumkin" and what will hold up for those that might put an average amount of miles on thier bikes may not serve you well. If you don't want to go with a complete new system, I would try Buell's new "supertrapp" race muffler or possibly the new D+D black muffler. However, Borla makes a complete system like mine and the one I have on order for C. Dave for your bike. I have gone over mine looking for any problems since its off right now and it looks very good. It has over 20,000 miles on it. Yeah, I know its shinny, but like I said, I don,t think there is a C/F unit made that will hold up for you. If your set on C/F, why not just make a real bracket for the muff you have. That thing on there is so flimsy. But I bet if you make a bracket that holds up the muffler will finally come apart from the vibration. A fellow on a stud game today ask the table which they would rather have; A beautiful girl that can't boil water or a ugly woman that could cook like mom. I ask, "how long do I have to live with her?" The choice is yours.

Well John, yours is probably the advice I place most confidence in...Borla doesn't list a muff for a 2001 S3 on their web site...I looked that up earlier...I was trying to find SuperTrap's web site but so far have been unable to...As things sit now I'll probably go with the Buell with 20 disks...I don't see much advantage to presssing V&H to cover the current one under warranty and just having the same problem again...I don't think I have had two faulty V&H's...I just think their CF design won't stand up to the torture of our Buells...At least if I go with the Buell muff, I'll have mother B standing behind it and also I have not heard of anyone having any problems with them... Bob...Thanks for your suggestion...I'll talk to my shop and see what they could do along those lines...I hate like hell to just throw out another perfectly good silencer (except for the bracket)... See Ya! Bob |

John...Forgot to say that I checked out the D&D and that may be too new to know much about...Also, in my humble opinion, it's not too attractive...Okay, it's ugly...Well, now, I feel better... |

Guess I didnt make myself clear. Borla does make a complete system similar to mine for your bike. Same muffler. Just has the primary tubes bent to clear the new style frame. Part# 25068. If you decide you want one, you better let me know asap. The 25065's (98 and older) have been on order for almost 2 months now. The captain is being patient but somewhat frustated. His should be in soon. They promised me early March for sure. While I have no knowledge on the ability of the Buell "supertrapp" muffle to hold up for the miles we put on, I suppect that they did their homework on this muffler. I think it would be worth a try also. |
