I just got a 2001 Blast with 25k miles on it. It is hard to get it to shift from either 1 to 2 or from 2 to 1 gear without grinding the gears. The person who sold me the bike for $1650 reassured me that that's just the way Buell Blasts are and that there's nothing wrong with the bike, and since I am used to Japanese motorcycles I decided to take their word for it. Now I am worried that I got ripped off. Any informed opinions would be appreciated. Thanks. |

sounds like the clutch needs adjustment and/or the primary chain. get a service manual and do it yourself, pretty easy. |

Check primary chain. These str8 cut gears are know to grind a bit. Be a bit more forceful and snap it into gear. |

Hey Nate, does it do it all of the time or just after you start it up? They grind a lot if the auto choke doesn't kick itself down after starting. For the best info, go to the Thumper forum and find EZBlast or Swampy or some of those folks. They're crazy and smart. A good combination. |

Change primary fluid to 15-50 Mobil, adjust pedal, adjust primary, but adjust to 7 flats out, not Book's recommended number, adjust clutch at primary adjustment, then at cable, finally if it still shifts hard - go all the way into the primary and do the Shift pawl adjustment - check drum pin length - make all the same, and while there chamfer the stator wire protection plate edges. Should shift easy after all that. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |
