The Chris Benoit tragedy is just that a tragedy. But the media wanted to place a huge spin on it and use the S word. Steroids and roid rage. For the most part the media neglect the fact that no other pro-bodybuilder, athlete, or wrestler has committed this type of roid rage. But hey it makes for a quick sound bite. Steroids are a classification of drugs that covers well over 30 different compounds. Each compound has different effects and different side effects. That has many different effects at different levels of usages. I won’t name compounds or the effects – not the chat board for it. Other drugs used: Many other drugs that are not steroids are used. Pain killers, muscle relaxers, sleep aids, stimulants, fat burners, even asmah meds to help burn fat, thyroid, insulin, Human growth hormone, Insulin Growth Factor (not even on the real market), blood pressure meds, hair loss meds, etc etc etc etc….. Even meds used by woman with breast cancer to control female hormones or pregnancy aids. So to try and blame a whole class of proven effective drugs is wrong. Wrong when many many other drugs were used either in conjunction or to control side effects. Not to mention the mental health of the effects of being a super star. Blaming the wrestling industry and demanding drug testing. Bogus. All this does is force the athlete to use dangerous compounds that can’t be tested for or use quick acting compounds that are clean after 12-24hrs. Even standard insulin can and is used when testing is in place. Also when a star musician or movie star comes up dead from overdose. Does the media require drug testing for them? Why is cocaine better than somebody trying to be a bit stronger or help recover an injury? Steroids when taken at proper dosages are very effective and the side effects are controlled with proper diet and nutrition. But some abuse them, which allows the negative stereotypes to be given. An example is one common steroid type that if controlled by a doctor would be given at 200mgs per week. This would keep the person in a normal to slightly high range. But a common user will take 400-1000mgs per week and a abuser or very large pro-bodybuilder might take 1000-3000mgs. As you can see 200mgs is very minute compared to 3000mgs! That’s like comparing a causal drinker who has one beer a night with a full blown drunk who his on a case a beer per night! BTW the most common cause of death in America is from being lazy, fat, and not eating proper. I'd like to see the media focus on the largest cause of death in American instead of wasting time with quick little sound bites. |

Lots of stuff is dangerous when taken without the supervision of a medical doctor - why are you putting so much effort into defending steroids? Do you take them illegally? |

Not defending the use of illegal or legal drugs. All drugs have effects. We are the most drugged up nation in the world legal or illegal.... Just pointing out how the ignorant media can displace the truth. For example the media both print and TV thinks its perfectly OK to have a major surgery to CUT OUT part of the stomach and intestines all to lose weight. But it is a proven fact that less hand to mouth movement is the healthy way along with exercise. Why? Just pointing out how the media will bring in "experts" who have never done any studies with steriods or probably even devoted any real time to researching them. They'll bring in an expert who IMO just spent 5 minutes reading some talking points when he really has no CLUE. Not much different than the DC shooters or the VT shootings. They'll bring in gun experts who just ramble on and on. Filling up the 1-2 minutes of time with wasted air. You watch some of these "experts" and wonder what exactly makes them an expert on the subject at hand. |

You are correct that there are many different steroid compounds, used legitimately for many different ailments. I've had steroids prescribed for me when I had pneumonia and to help recover from an injury. On the other hand, when the media focuses attention on steroid abuse they are not talking about a prednisone drip to help you breathe, they are talking about big doses taken by athletes to give them a competitive advantage. The fact that there is a term already established "roid rage" indicates to me that this may not be the first time someone has gone off the deep end. Benoit's rampage confirms what many suspected about how some of these wrestlers get so big. Wrestling is about selling tickets and pay-per-view and merchandising to middle America. Anything that makes these guys look less like super-heroes and more like drug abusing psychopaths is bad for business. I'm sure that is why they are going to institute testing. The generally poor physical condition of many is overlooked by the media, except where they can blame something on a evil corporation probably because there are so many fat liberals. |

I could care less what was the cause. Benoit killed his wife and is mentally challenged son. To me its no tragedy... it was plain simple murder and it seemed planned. |

The fact that there is a term already established "roid rage" indicates to me that this may not be the first time someone has gone off the deep end. Roid rage is something like road rage. Temporary acts of stupidty brought on by a feeling of super powers. Cagers in a car feel bigger and badder and they act stupid. What Chris did was not an act of rage -- more of a planned event. On the other hand, when the media focuses attention on steroid abuse they are not talking about a prednisone Prednisone is NOT an anabolic or androgenic compound. But still prednisone is IMO some awefull stuff when you look at the side effects compared to the benifits. After my bike wreck the doc gave me some. Made me soo sick I refused to take them. Benoit's rampage confirms what many suspected about how some of these wrestlers get so big. His rampage is not now nor ever will be confirmed to an excact cause. Steriods? Super Star stress? Pain Killers? Bad Marraige? troubled kid? No one single factor will ever be singled out. The vast majority of guys under 6' bigger than 220lbs that are also lean are using something. Something could be big bad steriods at any amount from normal levels to abusive amounts or plain old (dangerous) insulin or some GH. A few guys that put forth 110% effort into training and nutrition can be big and lean. But it requires vast knowledge of the nutrition and body systems along with a dedicated meal plan. Planning down to each miligram of nutrients. When to eat what. How much to eat.. etc etc etc. However steriods do not just make you big and strong. Without proper training and nutrition. Nutrition is 75% of being big. Just like a engine. Proper fuel at the proper ratio at the proper time is the KEY. Adding nitrous or a turbo without more fuel (food) is not going to help. I am not a pro wrestling fan. Real wrestling, Judo, MMA is what I like to see and do. |

Pain Killers? Bad Marraige? troubled kid? No one single factor will ever be singled out. Perhaps if Benoit was still alive he could dedicate himself to finding the real killers. Seriously, I think it is trying to take an extremely thin slice of the onion to portray the killings as anything less than an act of rage. Interestingly enough, WWE was first to refute the accusation of "roid rage" by pointing out that Benoit placed Bibles near the bodies of his wife and child. Do they feel that the calculated slaughter of your wife and innocent child are better than a drug induced rage? Apparently so. I normally take the view that what an adult puts in their body is their own business, unless someone else gets hurt in the process. It will be a long time if ever before professional wrestling regains its pre-murder image. |

Let us all band together in spiritual and mental harmony and defeat the demons amongst us. Let us all, not a single one of us, ever again do any of the following things: - Watch WWE wrestling - Watch NASCAR racing - Watch any of the regularly scheduled daytime TV offerings - Watch the Fox News channel - Listen to a Presidential Address made by, or take at face value, anything said by any seated President during the term of his office. What have I forgotten, I'm sure there is something... Offered with a heart saddened by the little people and innocent folks that get hurt in all the stupid crap that goes on around us... Jack |

OK, as a member of the media, I am here to defend my profession against the blasphemy and slurish insults hurled at us .... Just as soon as I write this story on how Paris Hilton has changed her life after her ordeal in jail..... |
