I'm still kicking myself for not buying the last "square" Buell helmet that sat on the shelf for 2 years. |

As far as boots are concerned the best out of three pairs I've bought since I got my bike in 09/05 are my AlpineStars Supertechs. They look quite a bit like I got lost at a ski lodge and ended up on a motorcycle, but they're comfortable and appear to have a lot of protection for joint and impact type injuries. I'm not necessarily dressing for high fashion anyway. It never ceases to amaze me that every time I get off my bike someone walks up to me and asks me why I would wear such uncomfortable and hot looking gear even in the summertime. The answer should be obvious IMO, but I guess that just makes me a freaking rocket scientist because I'm smart enough to assume it's going to hurt, and hurt a lot if I go down in the outfit of choice around here consisting of a tank top, shorts, flipflops, and a cellphone. I actually see kids riding their rice rockets around campus while holding a phone up to their ear with their clutch hand. Talk about target fixation to the extreme. Reckon they all have a tendency to wear out the left side of their tires? (-: Here's a similarly intelligent game to play while riding...we should all pick random times to close our eyes and count to ten while going down the street just to see what happens. Me myself, I'd be scared to death I might lose a flipflop. |

What you'd like to see I like the 3/4 with the flip up visor. More viewing area and a general more open feeling that a full face What brands Not gotten into buying a brand. Mostly becuase I've never wore a brand name. I wear an HJC now. What you feel is a reasonable price range Less than 100.00 only becuase you must try them on in the store and no returns. Would hate to drop big bucks only to find something at 60mph that I hate -- etc etc If I could try before buying I might spend up to 300.00 How often you replace helmets don't (Message edited by ryker77 on July 03, 2007) |

Actually . .. that one is PARKWAY BLUE. When the carbon fiber bodywork was made for my S-1 it was designed and done to make it look like a carbon fiber Buell had been hit with a Purple (Technically PARKWAY BLUE) water balloon . . kinda this "splash" sort of effect. Anyway . . . when the painter was getting ready to do the bike he asked if I had an old helmet. I sent him that Shoei RF-200 (or whatever) that I'd never worn and he put the gray Buell decals on, painted it and then put several coats of clear on it. I think it looks awesome with the gold iridium visor but it hasn't been worn in over 10 years. The one next to it is the one I am REALLY attached to. I was a prototype "flat back" Buell helmet. I donned that baby about 12 years ago this Thursday, left home and came back 34 days and 37 states later after someone called the Buells the "sweepings off the Harley factory floor". |

+1 bazillion for the Scorpion idea. Love my EXO-700, will be upgrading to EXO-1000 when it comes out. Scorpion blows HJC out of the water... no comparison. HJC has more in common with Fulmer, IMHO. (though I must admit, Fulmer has some of the best looking paint designs....) ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on July 03, 2007) |

The Buell helmet that I had was an older model and it was a Shoei. I really liked it but, unfortunately, I crashed the RC-51 at Road Atlanta while wearing my Buell helmet. It's on the shelf now. |

Colors what do I know......I had the 8 box of crayons.....If it gets more than the basic colors I am lost. It still is a great looking helmet. I like some of the graphics of the Icon and the other smaller manufactures but I think their performance is suspect. |

Based on my own experiences and observations, I believe Icon puts out poor quality merchandise relative to what is available otherwise. I suppose "better than nothing" is exactly that, but despite being on a grad student budget, I've managed to prioritize my gear to the level required to buy good quality, and I would suggest that everyone make it a point to do so as well. I'm quite sure my life is worth a few missed steak dinners to make sure I bought good protection. I would bestow that advice upon any of my friends and family. Don't scrimp on your gear. |

I guess my head is an odd shape, it is distinctly oval and narrower in the front, because I find the KBCs to fit well as do most arai's and some shoeis. However the Scorpions that I've tried on thus far just don't fit me properly. I've learned the value of a quality helmet and I don't balk at laying down the cash for a good helmet. Anything that improves the odds of walking away unscathed from a wreck is worth the price of admission. If Buell was to brand a top quality helmet (Arai, Shoei, shark, suomy etc...) in an attractive design I'd be more than willing to buy one. I replace my helmets generally every 4 years or less depending upon amount of wear and if it gets dropped etc. On a related note I have one Scorpion's semi-rigid helmet cases and it is a great way to save your favorite lid from taking a beating. It also has a pocket for an extra shield built in which is a nice touch. Buell might do well by contracting to badge them too...;) |
