Would you drive a bike like this around with your head high or would you be ashamed given some of its decals? A couple here have already chimed in. Im just curious what other badwebbers think.

I think its askin for trouble you dont need. Is the owner a real rebel or wannabe? Can give bikers another black eye we dont need. Yeah, we are hooligans but we also have a consience. Well, at least I do. Flaunting the darker side is for apes that dont shave and drag their knuckles when they walk. Besides that is this a part of history that should be glorified? i think not. And, I dont mean to not be proud of your heritage, but is there isnt a German i know thats proud of what the nazi's accomplished.

The bike may be a work of art, can't say the same for the individual that applied the SS decals. This in not the right forum to describe one that would do that.
If anyone is uncertain what those emblems signify, a simple google will help you out.

Just my two cents.

Shalom.

the decals definately look nazi and need to be gone. the mirrors alone are bad, but not nazi, would toss them, just cause maltese cross mirrors suck on that bike. maltese cross is not nazi or even of german descent for those who don't know better. the US military uses this symbol as well as other countries to this day. it is from the order of malta which dates back to the 12th century

Its human decency not political correctness. If someone put your family in ovens and exterminated them you wouldnt call it political correctness to come out against them. Unless of course you believe the holocaust never happened.

I've worn or had a Iron Cross/Maltese Cross since I was about 13. It had nothing to do with wanting to kill anyone but was part of my association with the church in which I was brought up: A maltese cross was in each pew of the church and on the brass cover to the communion plate.

The SS stickers, well, I have issues with that, although my old band "Dwarftoss" had two dots over the a and the ss in the SS style just to make it look cool and get gigs.

The "SS" stickers in the motorcycle world is generally indicative of "81"

If you are NOT a member of "81" then you are looking for a world of trouble by displaying that emblem...

Just some history:
Of all the German organizations during WWII, the SS is by far the most infamous - and the least understood amongst average historians. The SS was in fact not a monolithic "Black Corps" of goose stepping Gestapo men, as is often depicted in popular media and in many third rate historical works. The SS was in reality a complex political and military organization made up of three separate and distinct branches, all related but equally unique in their functions and goals. The Allgemeine-SS (General SS) was the main branch of this overwhelmingly complex organization, and it served a politicial and administrative role. The SS-Totenkopfverbande (SS Deaths Head Organization) and later, the Waffen-SS (Armed SS), were the other two branches that made up the structure of the SS. The Waffen-SS, formed in 1940, was the true military formation of the larger SS, and as such, it is the main focus of this section. Formed from the SS-Verfungstruppe after the Campaign in France in 1940, the Waffen-SS would become an elite military formation of nearly 600,000 men by the time WWII was over. Its units would spearhead some of the most crucial battles of WWII while its men would shoulder some of the most difficult and daunting combat opertations of all the units in the German military. The Waffen-SS is sometimes thought of as the 4th branch of the German Wehrmacht (Heer, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine) as in the field it came under the direct tactical control of the OKW, although this notion is technically incorrect as strategic control remained within the hands of the SS. To this day the actions of the Waffen-SS and its former members are vilified for ultimately being a part of the larger structure of the political Allgemeine-SS, regardless of the fact that the Waffen-SS was a front line combat organization.

And my own opinions: Why I am not a war monger or Neo-Nazi, etc I can see both sides of this. It rings true with so many symbols throughout history. What about the confederate battle flag? Now there is a discussion to be had. While it is only my opinion, and I certainly do not agree with genocide, did you ever look at it from the standpoint that many in the SS were merely German Countrymen defending their own beliefs in their own country? I have seen firsthand the effect that many of these symbols have. I had the great pleasure of working on a restoration team for a Messerschmitt ME-109. The aircraft was complete with the swastika on the tail. We had a Jewish pilot in the community that was so offended that we had to cover the tail of the airplane whenever it was sitting in the hangar. For me, I thought it was over dramatic, for him, the member of a family of holocaust survivors it was serious business.
Any way...my 2.5 cents. (That'll buy you about a millionth of a drop of gasoline today)
Nick

The ss comes off, It's not my symbol, and even though the Waffen ss was seldom involved in atrocities, the historical facts are overshadowed by the nazi memories. The Swastika sign was ruined by those guys, It is of religious origin, and multiple cultures, India, Native american, etc. ruined.

The mirrors just suck, not because they are crosses, but because they are hard to see with and a safety hazard. I've rode friends bikes with that style mirror. With bar ends, it'd be better.

I think its pretty, but my fat butt won't handle a thong.

I would lose the SS or add KI to go with it...or just replace the SS with maltese crosses and you've got a slick bavarian aircraft look.

Those that confuse maltese crosses with the Nazis are well off base...it is still part of the German Luftwaffe today, but I do think any justification of the SS, though history may prove it innocent, is ill advised given it's reception today.

I would liken it to the Stars and Bars...a beautiful flag on its own that was not originally intended to associate with the slavery issue, but with a potential nation. Its historical links, due to poor PR, uneducated folk looking to justify a way of life, and some lesser lifeforms in certain racist organizations, have doomed it the world of bad taste and judgement.

It is because of those ties that I cannot/ will not fly the flag on my vehicles for fear that someone will associate me with such beliefs.

It's hard to get away from the cross-Nazi association with the SS. VegasBueller is right about the Waffen-SS history. I know a former SS man who saw some horrific battles but doesn't subscribe to the Nazi viewpoint.

FEZ, I was in Dwarftoss in Fayetteville, NC back in 1988-90. We named it after an event at a local topless bar in which soldiers tossed a dwarf as far as they could and the winner won, well, whatever you'd win for tossing a dwarf. Unfortunately, the week before he was to be tossed, the dwarf drank himself to death. It created quite a stir in the community and we didn't have a name, so .....

Read "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" for the facts about the SS. Thugs, murderers, the worst of humanity. Some don't like to think about this; we must remember what happened. Please, no SS symbols anywhere. Get informed.

Here's some pictures taken a little over 3 weeks ago in Berlin, Germany clearly showing a maltese cross.

Brandenburg Gate Maltese Cross

Brandenburg Gate

The Brandenburg Gate was built between 1788 and 1791, although the maltese cross was added in 1814 (still well before all that Nazi foolishness).
Again, clearly displayed in this 1871 picture.

I cannot tell for sure from the low res photo what exactly the SS shaped emblem really is. It could be a couple of lightning bolts.

I wouldn't have any Nazi related stuff on my own bike.
