Hello all, first post here. 02' Lightning x1 is the ride. 10,000 miles and a recent trans fluid change. When shifting from 1st to 2nd I find the bike getting caught in neutral many times and making a grinding sometimes as it tries to catch the gear. It seems to happen more when accelerating quickly. Also when I am coasting to a stoplight and holding the clutch in, as I down shift through the gears everything is fine until I shift from 2nd to 1st. It makes a grinding noise when trying to down shift into 1st while coasting. It does not do it however while completely stopped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Brian |

I had the same exact problem with my 2000 M2 right off the showroom floor. I finally fixed it earlier this year... it was surprisingly easy and cost just a little more than $100 for the parts and beer. It's outlined in this thread... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/264413.html?1173976448 Definitely check all the basics first. Re-adjust the cluth pack and cable, make sure you don't have too much oil in the trans, re-adjust the shift-pawl and check the detent plate. Also... get a manual. The good news is if you are the least bit mechanically inclined, it's entirely possible to take the transmission out and reinstall it in a few hours. The bad news is... actually, there isn't any bad news in this case. |
