Hey Every time I bring my bike to get a new set of tires the changer takes off more of the amber paint. Any thoughts on how to cope with the silver showing 'naked' spots on the mag. Is there a orange paint pen? Does rattle can orange color exist that would hide the nicks? Any easy solutions out there, maybe a pinstripe solution with a lighting or checkered pattern? Or may I should strip the out rim/cuff so the silver shows. If I take all the amber off will the mag need to be polished by hand with mother's compound. (Message edited by fl_a1a on June 25, 2007) |

Buell sells touch up paint for the amber. I don't recall how much it was but it was under $10. It's not perfect by any means but it does make it a little less visible. I usually clean the wheels then hit all the new nicks. |

There is also a company who is able to re-powercoat the wheels to the ambler color. PM Josh_Cox at Cycle Connection in Joplin. He has the contact information. |

I used a honda automotive paint color, I will look for the bottle, matched almost perfect and you could not tell unless you were "looking". |

There is a paint called Metalcast Dupli-Color. I bought it from Advance Autoparts. I went there the other day to get more and they have discontinued stocking that color. It matches perfect. Here is the web site http://www.duplicolor.com/index.html I painted the ankle guards and the levers. I finished it all up with 4 layers of clear coat Polypropylene. Been on there over a year now. I also am going to do the scratches on the rims. I have some of those also from having the tires changed. Check out the pictures. Perfect match! There are a few scratches from normal wear and tear, but real easy to touch up when needed.
Same bike different cloths. I have the black skin on it now like the two pictures above.

That paint is hard to find in that color. I ended up having to order it off the net and now am waiting for it to ship on back order. |

Thanks for the heads up. Obiewan, Did you use the 'ground coat' or just spray the heel gaurds/levers? (Message edited by RidrX on June 26, 2007) |

Ridrx, I don't think they have it at AZ (?) Autozone. I got it from Advance Auto Parts. But heck if they do have it let me know. I need another can of it for another few parts I want to spray. would be quicker than ordering it for sure. |

Ridrx, You don't want to use a ground coat or primer. The silver metal color shines through the paint giving it that color. The more coats you put on it the darker it gets. I started with the shinny metal (Just cleaned it real good with some fine brillow...don't scratch it up) and lightly sprayed it until I got the color to match perfect. I actually tested it on another piece of metal first. Then I went for the real part. After I got the color just right, I brushed on 4 coats of Polypropylene. Did it all in one day. I got the fast drying stuff also. |

Buellshyter, Better get a couple of cans!! I might need to order some also. I'm still looking at the part stores around here first, so far no luck. Let me know how long it takes to get it in. Thanks |

Thanks for the tip Obi. Website lists some retailers...Wal-Mart/Pepboys/Napa/K-mart/ AZ/ and Advance. Be cool if American Sport Bike or another sponsor would stock up on it. |
