Reasoning is that stems get a lot of abuse and the compound is not as ruggid as most of the tire compounds. They will dry up and crack. It is worse with m/c tires as the g forces are higher than on a car so they stress faster. I have them replaced everytime I buy new tires for my cars. On the flip side...those stems have been going round and round for 50-75K miles - a good deal more than the 5K on the bike... No arguement if you've not replaced them, no arguement if you have. I was just saying that I was looking for them. On the aint broke don't fix...I've been caught by that many a time and don't like it at all - I prefer the maintenance and replace or repair BEFORE it breaks...blame it on the day job... Anyway...Scotty - I take it you're not going for the new stems now? I may pass them up on this change as well but will start looking for them when I'm at parts stores so I know where to go. Oh yeah, one more thing on the stems...the manufacturers actually have a shelf life they recomend to their customers...just a little tid bit for ya's... |

If you find 'em before the weekend, JP, by all means hook me up. If not, that's cool too. I'm not really sweating it. I should receive my tires tomorrow. You listening, Eric? Look out, here I come to hit you up for some more maintenance. |

isn't the stems on these bikes all metal and thread into the rim?? I will have to go look to double check. but I thought their was another post somewhere about someone having trouble trying to switch the XB valve stems to 90 degree ones |

I just checked the book and it mentions a torque spec for the fastener in the section for replacing the tire valve...maybe a call to (I hate to say this) the dealer is in order to at least get a description... |

The Buells have a very specific valve stem in them ties Jp. One can get the 90 deg. units but some machine work will need to be done to the rim...Nothing major at all and they are very nice set up. For the price they should be. I have been through....umm...err..I do not know really how many tires, but I still have the same stems and they look fine... |

It is a job, I am not impressed with them. It seems they go through ALOT of drafters. I see why now that I am there. Work conditions SUCK! I need to go and buy myself a chair as I need to keep my ballance on the one there it rocks so bad....That is once I get it to a level I can sit on it... I will stay till I find something else better, I am looking again...wish I wasn't but I am... Why is it you try and better yourself and Yaa end up taking 2 steps backwards? I almost feel I should have stayed where I was, Oh well what can one do.... |

Welcome back Nate! How was big sky country? You ready for the Sunday adventure? I got my mesh: TourMaster. Not as light-colored as I was looking for, but I guess bikers got a thing about black. |

Don't worry about the mesh jacket not being as light colored as you wanted Scotty. We all know about the color black and sunlight, but the other aspect is mass and specific heat and mesh jackets are very low on both factors! I have a black mesh jacket and it is like wearing a t shirt only when moving. If you are stopped, well sitting on a hot bike in direct sunlight is going to be hot even if you are only wearing a t shirt - mesh can't change that no matter the color..... |

I rode with it this morning, and what a difference! I almost feel vulnerable compared to my other jackets, but I know I've got armor where it counts. Don't know what's up for the weekend guys, but Saturday's out for me and Sunday's tight. |

I chickened out today on taking the bike to work. Something about 95 degrees, and Boston traffic a 3pm just made me take the truck with AC. its the first time I have taken the truck to work since 19th. So it could use some air, and I think the bike will enjoy the day off. you got a link to a pic of your mesh armor jacket, I have been needing to pick up one. |

Linky Brockton had quite a few on hand, but only like three left in gray. They had a TON of Kawi green ones. On sale at $125.99. |

wow, that is amazing jacket, does it come with one liner, or two? I will probably have to order one tho because being 6'4" and thin I will probably need a tall version I have an older jacket that is way to big for me and its extremly anyoing. the length is fine but the chest is way large and I feel extremly restriced because the material is so bunched up |

Nice jacket! I have a Tour Master Transition jacket and am very happy with the quality, features and price. I will definitely be buying more of their products in the future... |

PK, I feel your pain. I'm 6'2" and I wear a 42 long "athletic cut" sportcoat, which is really hard to find, so when it comes to bike gear it's even worse. I'm pretty sure that this jacket doesn't have "long" versions, but I bought the last large (size 44) and my wrists aren't naked, but not by much. At the same time, the body of the jacket isn't too big, so I don't feel like I'm riding around in a sack. As for the liners, there are two: the wind/rain barrier and really thick quilted layer. The rain/wind barrier layer can be worn by itself with or without the insulated layer but you're not going to win any fashion contests. I'm really happy with TourMaster/Cortech, myself. Now I've got my eye on their Transition jacket... |

It's nice to see guys buying gear for the heat instead of a 'it's too hot for that crap' attitude. Hey Nate/Greg: I was planning on riding down your way tomorrow night...but now the weather is looking like crap again...I've been trying to get down there on a Thursday night for weeks...and mother nature keeps getting in the way. We'll see what really happens tomorrow but let me know if you'll be around... |
