I only got them after much proding from Jim/Eric.'Ya know.......They were RIGHT! BIG improvement! I always ran them on the Ducati but, didn't realize how bad the Dunlops were on the XB.Ok on the X1/w Dunlop. |

Next project: rear fender eliminator. Get rid of the diving board hanging off the back of the bike. I tore it apart yesterday to get a template going, but I'm not sure how accurate it is. Same basic build as before (bent plate), but aluminum. Sorry, this one is Uly-specific. |

I think I'll stick with the good ol' Rustoleum rattlecan grey hammer finish, thank you. What the heck is carbonitride, anyways? Isn't that what Han was frozen in? I don't even know where I'd go to get something anodized. I'm guessing I can't do it in my garage. Anybody want to pick up for a mildly boring ride down 495 to Brockton Cycle Center this PM? It's gonna be stupid hot tomorrow, so I'm in the market for a mesh jacket. |

I only got them after much proding from Jim/Eric.'Ya know.......They were RIGHT! See Greg we can't be that bad... Scotty_J.... I have a can of the factory Graphite Grey paint that matches the frame if you want to use some of it to paint your tail. Also I have a Joe Rocket Balistic mesh jacket, if you want some input then these are really nice jackets. |

Thanks, D, but it'd be a waste of good factory paint. The entire tailpiece will be covered with something; license plate, signals, plate light... Just have to get some paint on it to keep the aluminum from oxidizing. I've got a Joe Rocket Ballistic 4.0 jacket and I love it, but right now I'm leaning towards Fieldsheer, but it depends on what's available and what fits. |

Here they are,Balzers Coatings in Agawam Mass. JP is likely aware of them.I used to have cutting tools coated in Titanium Carbonitride.OK i admit it's likely cost prohibitive. But a nice cheap anodize would be nice too,and less weight than paint http://www.oerlikon.com/coatingservices/us/ (Message edited by Ducxl on June 25, 2007) |

LOL Scotty_J....... I ALSO have a FieldSheer riding jacket. It isn't a mesh one but is leather that is perforated in the front. I can use in any temp under 90 and it's not too hot. http://www.fieldsheer.com/2007web/web3/product/revosport2.htm mine is all black of course.........

BTW I took off ALL of the FieldSheer tags on the jacket and pants. I didn't want to go around looking like a FieldSheer billboard. |

So I got halfway there and 495 turned into a parking lot because of a fender-bender. Brockton Cycles closes at 7, and I'd hate to be walking in the door just when they're closing up so I bailed out, headed home. I'll try again tomorrow. I'm dead set on a grey or silver mesh. Black is like wearing a solar panel. And I don't mind the tags; you should see my leather. I am a billboard for pretty much everything -heh. Thanks for the research, Greg, but I'll stick with the rattlecan. So little of the bracket will be exposed that I could coat it with duct tape & boogers and you wouldn't even notice. |

If you go to Brockton Cycles let me know. I know someone that works there and may be able to get you a discount. |

OK so I'm looking at tires and they have like 8 different combinations of width and height and tire compound durometer...and neither the owners book or the maintenance manual have the tire size in them...WTF good is that? So off to the shed with a flashlite I go... |

OK - I have another question/concern...what do you mean don't worry about balancing the tire? I just read that Pirelli markets the tire manufacturing capabilities that if you balance the rim you don't 'have to' balance the tire due to the automated production...they still make the front wheel by hand so that definately needs to be balanced... Eric/Jim - you guys have balancers too? or is there something else I don't know about here... Sorry - no insult intended here...the engineer in me isn't buying it yet that's all... |

Damnut- name drop for me if you don't mind. I'm sure if I buy something at a brick n' mortar, it'll be Brockton. They're the only place that actually has stuff. Otherwise, I'll be using their facilities to see what fits and then buy online. I'm tall & scrawny, so it's really hard to find a jacket that covers my wrists but isn't so big in the chest that I could fit another person in it. JP- I wasn't too keen on not having my rubber balanced, but all the guys with more miles under their belts than you or I say it's no big deal. Tell the engineer in your head to have a beer. |

I twice tried to get wheels balanced at Precision HD.They charge $40. each for mount&balance, except, they don't have the proper cones to do our wheels.I'm on a set i know aren't balanced and cannot feel any difference.Really. Scott, have you considered Vanson leathers? They can custom fit you and, their world headquarters is right in nearby Fall River Massachusetts. And they DO other materials than leather too. |

When I was shopping for my current leather, I checked Vanson. Their stuff is awesome, but my pockets aren't that deep and their custom work is even pricier. And I'm in the understanding that they're kinda slow. And Precision probably couldn't balance your wheels because there isn't enough chrome on your XB. |

Thanks, but like I said, hang onto it for something else. No use wasting it on something where it's just going to get covered up. So how do I get Mr. Tripp to do ME a favor? And I thought this would be of interest to the community: Buell Dirtbike There's an artist's rendering of it in one of the bike 'zines. (Message edited by scotty_j on June 26, 2007) |

I'm on the bike unless it's raining...the mesh jacket is my ticket on the hot days and I'll just keep taking turns to avoid sitting in traffic...I'll get home eventually... I found the stems...I have to go to a local automotive parts store...now to find a store that has the short ones you're supposed to use on m/c tires... (Message edited by jpb on June 26, 2007) |

Uuuuh, stems? Didn't know I needed stems... grab a couple for me as well, JP? You know I'm good for it. I drove the wife's cage today, but only because I had to get it's insurance inspection done. Sorta glad that I did. It's ridiculous out there. |

umm this may sound like a stupid question but why do you need stems? I'm on my 4th rear tire and my second front and I am yet to change the stems. If it ain't broke........ don't fix it. |
