hi everyone. i have a few questions. first is how can i tell weather or not i have the shock that was recalled or if it was replaced? and i measured my shock and it was about 17" from bolt to bolt on the bike. another member has a shock that measures 15" bolt to bolt thats off the bike. will his shock work on my bike? |

If you have the long one, it has to be replaced as the old ones are known to breakage; to address this, Buell came up with the shock reinforcement package, see pic. this helps in case of breakage but will not prevent it and it looks ugly.
The new shock requires a different front mount to compensate for the shorter distance between eyelets, this is included in the kit for the conversion. You can go to a dealer and run your VIN in the system and they will let you know if the bike has gone through the recalls, if not, I heard that you can still get them for free, but it may take a few calls to HD customer service to get it done. Good luck Mack |

I went through a LOT of calls with Buell Customer Service. The shocks with out a external reservoir appear to not hold their seals well (as in, they fail easily). Works has a deal where they will rebuild the shock - at a pretty fair price compared to a new shock. I got my replacement on ebay. As for what you need to do to find out for sure if you have any chance of getting the shock replaced by Buell - call Buell Customer Service and have your VIN number. If you have a GOOD Buell dealer - they can help argue your case. I have a GREAT Buell dealer - but still was on my own for replacing the shock. |
