On the way back from the inaugural mtn run of my new yellow beast, just at exit 9 on 400, I spy a police SUV. Damn I say... looks like he clocked me (mind you I wasn't doing anything crazy.. .just accelerating a bit but for the most part staying in the flow). I keep going, don't see him... look back... there's the lights... well, hopefully, he's after someone else, but I start making my way over anyhow. He follows me over. Shit I think... no tickets in over 5 years. There goes my perfect record. Cop: License and proof of insurance please. Me: Here's my license sir, I just got the bike this week and haven't yet received the proof of insurance. Cop: I see. Son, I pulled you over because I clocked you on laser at 86. The speed limit here is 55. Me: Yes sir, but I was really just trying to stay with the flow of traffic. Cop: Well, son, before I clocked you, I clocked the car ahead of you at 82. You were actually accelerating towards him Me: Yes Sir, I understand. And I don't mean to argue with you. I was accelerating, but I just bought the bike and its in the break in period. I've been accelerating and slowing down all day sir. Cop: Hmmm.... --Walks back to his vehicle....Returns 1 minute later.. Cop: Son, Over half the numbskulls I pull over on bikes don't even have a motorcycle endorsement. I'm so impressed that you've got one, I'm just going to give you a warning. Me: Really? Nobody has an endorsement? Cop: No kidding... Watch your speed. Me: Yes Sir! Thank you sir! I don't think I brok 60 the rest of the way home. I have to say I've been pretty pleased with my overall police experience over the past few years. I got caught breaking the tires loose changing lanes on Tilly Mill in my Cobra, and the guy only gave me a warning. I was cruising 80 in the 55 on 285 one day, and a motorcycle cop came up behind me. I didn't even realize he was there until he blipped his siren. He just pointed at his speedo as he passed me, and I slowed down. Most recently, I wrecked the hell out of my M2 in the mountains and didn't get cited for it.   Shred Posted on Sunday, June 24, 2007 - 07:56 pm:        Cool Cmgaviao, Glad he was cool cop I wasn't up there today,wish I was though. We use to have a lot more mountain gatherings. Maybe soon I'll get up to the hills. I REMEMBER WHEN..... I was not so lucky with the police though. After over hearing someone at Dales' say there was a State Trooper on 180, I decided to head west on 60. 15 miles later I come out of a turn into a straight and there's a trooper flagging me over. Said he clocked me at 67 but he wrote the ticket for 64 in a 45. I bought a brand new rec boat back in Feb that STILL hasn't seen the water yet! We were just talking about needing to get the boats out yesterday. I've only done Flat Water and I don't think Kdan has (or would do) white water in years. So I guess the next ??? would be what type of Kayaking do you do? AND would you be interested in playing in the water with some old and seriously out of shape paddlers? His name is Watson Atkinson. He books out about a month in advance. I few years back when I was going down to atlanta regularly Roswell had a cop set up with radar around there. He liked bikes and would wave as I went by at 85. Unfortunately in Union & Lumpkin law enforcement is as high as I can ever remember it. There seems to be a concentrated effort to get the sport bikes to slow down. I am seeing UCSD patrols where they have never been seen before, and random road block licence checks by GSP. My advise would be to make sure your paperwork is in order. Being local does not seem to be as good a "get out of jail free card" as it always has been either. I can usually count on a wave or a warning when stopped by UC. Last week one friend on a V-Strom got a written warning, another (separate incident) got a ticket. They were both doing over the posted 25 MPH on Wolf Pen Gap Rd. Both guys law abiding straights in their 50's. The ticketed one was riding a sport bike. A little common sense and courtesy reduces your chance of making a contribution to the local magistrate as well. Saturday I was heading south on GA 60 towards TWO and I was passed in the opposite direction by many sport bikes (including a few Buells) that were doing at least 80 MPH. Why come up here to go fast in the straights? You can do that on I-285. This is what the cops are looking for and make for the biggest fines. Anyway have fun and be safe. P.S. Anyone up in the mountains for the 4th be advised that Blairsville does Independence Day like it used to be done all over the south. Community games and stuff at Meeks Park, free BBQ and pie eating, etc. at various churches, and a great fireworks display against a black sky after dark. Anyone that doesn't want to play chicken with Bambi on the way home should remember that Atlanta is only about an hour and a half by the 4 lane (515).   Shred Posted on Monday, June 25, 2007 - 07:49 pm:        LIBERTY TATTOO!!!! Forgot to post up about Cycle Jam, I started a thread on "Doin what we do best" I got my body work back but not the forks from Traxxion which is more important. Looks like I might be racing on sh_ty stock forks again. The sh_ties....I can't believe Duc' would even put such a cheap set of forks with no adjustables on a 04' By the way my buddies Marty and Kevin will be there racing the only Buell in WERA "for now" Come and cheer them on, their really cool folks. The twins Stacy and Tracy will be racing Endurance on Friday thats a 6hr race. Isn't that sick....6Hr's of racing... Check this dude out: Today was also a good day. I threw down my crutches and walked like Jesus just spit on my leg. I start official physical therapy Wednesday, and I should be out of the boot 2 weeks later. Who's riding during the week of the 4th? I'm out, of course, but my uncle and one of his friends are coming out from Houston to hit the hills.
