Looking to make my wife more comfortable on the back of the bolt. See wants to ride more but she says stock set-up is too uncomfortable for longer rides. Any ideas for gear or mods? I just ordered the Firebolt Touring Pillion.  Will the lighting pegs(1 inch drop) replace the rear passenger pegs?  Will this increase comfort? Is there a reason they only sell them for rider position? | ||

hey barker... yer bike is an '03, right? the passenger peg mounts on those are shorter than '04 and up 'bolts and lightnings. they will let her stretch her legs a little more. i have a set of '06 mounts that i took off of my bike. i put '03's on mine because i have a short-legged passenger. pm me if ya wanna talk about gettin' those longer peg mounts for her. they are ridiculously expensive new, and mine are in good shape. | ||

Careful doing that switch! I laid mine down ('03 XB) and got a new set of peg mounts for the rear, they sold me the new model ones, and they rub the swing arm when the bike squats. I had to take them off and go back to the old scratched up ones. | ||

thanks for the warning, tim. i'll take 'em back if it doesn't work. i'm curious now...could you grind it back a little for clearance or did it hit a lot? oh, and about the lightning pegs... they don't have the holes for the springs/ball lock that the rears do. don't think the front pegs will work on the rear without modification unless you don't mind them flopping around. Right, I too noticed the rear pegs are different due to the lack of the little ball, spring set up. I wonder if any aftermarket pegs will work for that type of application, there has to be something that will fit right? As for the peg mounts, It rubbed enough to take the finish off, and I yanked 'em. I suppose you probably could grind the backside a bit to clear. | ||

A simple mod that's possible is to remove the passenger brackets and reinstall them on the other side of the bike. There is a little clearancing of the plastic underpan that can be done with a file or Xacto knife, a little filing on the brackets to make the ball detent plates sit flat on the opposite brackets properly, and you'll have to lose the heel guards, but that's about it. The pegs open and close like stock and everything clears the swingarm. They look kinda weird swapped like this because they are positioned more vertical than swept back, but that's not what is important. Your wife will love it because the pegs are now about 3 inches forward and down from stock and she'll now have leverage to keep from sliding forward when you hit the brakes especially with the touring pillion. | ||

That is what I would have suggested. ***Touring seat ** switch the brackets around If she needs more than that to be comfy you may as well get a bagger.... or get her a bike of her own..  | ||

I second the "bike of her own"! She may find she really likes that idea! But I applaud you for the work to make her more comfortable. In the end, it's all about the girls!   | ||

Sorry, but that was a pure one off out of some scrap stainless my brother had in his scrap bin. I used stainless because of it's really high yield strength for the thin section on the bracket where the slot is cut. I mocked up the bracket out of some thin gauge sheet metal (easy to cut with snips and hand form) then transferred that design to the heavier steel. I also purchased a stock pillion seat off ebay for $10 and stripped it down to the pan and used that pan so I didn't destroy the high dollar touring pillion seat working out the details. | ||
