Yesterday it was in the high 90s with about 3000% humidity. So I decided to change things up and ride in my offroad gear. Anyone who knows moto-x gear knows that some of it is.....lets say...loud. So I am out for about 150 miles and make a couple of stops. I am at a loss to describe how some reacted to my choice of apparel. A mini-van momma and her kids absolutely loved it. One little boy asked if I was Captain America. (I was rocking my Red, White and Blue Fly gear) Then he asked why my tires weren't "knobbied." This kid was so taken by it that his mom took a picture of the two of us. Wish I would of given her my email because I would of loved to have that pic. So I jump back on and hit some mixed gravel and twisties and stop in good ole DYKE, Va (I S@#t you not) to get some petrol. So I swipe me card, pump my gas, then go inside to get some H20. Where I am told by the very unhappy woman behind the counter that she is going to call the "law" if I do not get my "F'ing ATV" off the highway. There are very few times in my life when I have nothing to say. This was one of them. I go outside roll the bike forward so she can see the tailend. I put on my biggest shit eatin grin and point to the license plate. I can see her mutter something which I am sure was not a pleasantry. One moment I am made to feel like a hero then the next a criminal. It's a funny world we live in. But I wouldn't change it for anything. |

So a Uly is an ATV now? You have to wonder how lousy someone's life has to be for them to get upset over something like that. I used to be huge into trail riding in Michigan, and most of my club had gotten our KTM's plated for the street (not too hard to do in Mich then). That allowed us to roll into town and fuel up on long loops. We got a lot of looks as well, but not so much open hostility. |

I had many issues with LEOs when I had my XR650R tagged for the street. I would get pulled over at least every third trip out of my driveway. The big thing was that they could not believe that it would pass inspection. I actually went to the shop I use 3 months before my inspection was due and had them put a new one on the front number plate. For some reason the State Troopers around here took offense to me having it on my swingarm.....who knows why. |
