Removing a chin fairing and wondering what is best to use on the bolts to prevent leakage? |

Maybe I'm misunderstanding this, but taking off the chin fairing shouldn't cause a leak. On my X1, I did have a little bit of leaking out of the two screws that go into the Primary cover, but I had bought one of the cheap primary gaskets (finally bought one of the good ones from American Sport Bike). When I ran without the chin fairing on mine, I just cleaned out the holes with some brake cleaner, put the screws back in with the spacers and no more leaks. |

Anytime I want a bolt to stay put, I use red loctite. If I want to keep a bolt from leaking, I put a dab of Hylomar on it. Either of them will break free with tool pressure, but the Hylomar is a bit thicker going on and will "glob" better to prevent leaks. Check torque on all the other primary bolts though - you may have a couple coming loose...or a couple that are overtight. |

I used to see a little weep from those two bolts. Not anymore,i think due to the newer metallic gasket. You could try Loctite branded "Thread sealant" though. That'd definately fix it. |
