Just checked with Michelin, It's just the front and mine is fine. The tire should have all this info on it: 6UCW 979t or 6UCW 980t and made in France. My tire had some of the info but not all so it is excluded. Here is the # for customer relations. 1-866-324-2835 | ||

That sucks. Hopefully it's just a cosmetic flaw. Recalling tires is bad. Recalling bike tires is 10X worse! If one of these tires causes a crash Michelin will lose their ass! | ||

Good idea. Supposedly I just take it to any authorized dealer (anyone who sells them)and get it replaced mounted n balanced for free... I think I'll bring that number with me just in case... | ||

And of course the dealer that my bike is AT RIGHT NOW is a dunlop dealer but will be soon switching to michelin and had no idea about the recall. | ||

Harley just announced that Michelin will join Dunlop as an official provider of tires. | ||

I have a 6UCW 980T tire that I have done a track day on already. This is great to find out now about it after the fact. That is not the whole DOT number so I'll have to find out some more specifics about this recall. | ||

It has to have one of the numbers AND say made in France on it. If it has either number and made in france it IS a recall tire and blablabla read my post. This came from michelin customer service. | ||

I hate France, but the dammed Pilot Powers are the best tires in the world. If you don't have them on your Buell it is a great disservice. Could NOT believe the difference from the stock Dunlcraps. I would use a set of recalled pilots before using new dunlops.  | ||

If you have 2CT front 120/70ZR17 look for a DOT code 6UCW98OT followed by a 4-digit code that specifies when the tyre was made. If the 4-digit code is between 4505 and 1807 and it was made in France, contact Michelin Tech Support (0800 056 7200 in England) Michelin wouldn't say exactly what's wrong with the tyre but advised keeping to the speed limit until the problem is resolved. | ||

I have the said tyre 6UCW 980T but the number after is 1307. I guess that means Im in the clear. I called Michelin Japan this morning before i knew about the '1307' part and the guy was really sheepish as if he didnt know much about it. I said surely you have heard about the 2ct recall. Theres not as many lawyers here as in the states so maybe they arent going to worry about it.Makes me think of that Edward Norton character in FIGHTCLUB, "If the cost of the potential lawsuits is less than the recall, they won't do one". Not much help when Im dead though. Anyway the guy took all my details and says he will get back to me. I was hoping to get a full set out of them, those tire companies are always telling you not to mix new and used tires $$$$$, how can i change the front and not the back?? Biggest Michelin f%$#' up since the 2005 US F1 GP? | ||

Michelin will be issuing free replacements for owners of the affected tyres. If you give your details to Michelin, they will send you a letter that authorises a replacement at your friendly neighbourhood tyre shop. I imagine there will be a bit of a 'rush' on Pilot Power fronts when this gets out | ||

They didn't tell me anything about a letter. They just said take it in and they'll mount balance and replace it for free. I was like well I'll just have them call this number ok. She said that would be fine. | ||

I called Michelin US and they gave me a reference number (my telephone number) and told me go to the dealer and get the tire replaced. | ||

So I called the shop where I bought the tires. They said they are expecting all the recall information from Michelin today. They have no replacement tires in stock but expect them shipped shortly. I was assured that whatever the problem it is not a safety issue and that I should visually inspect my tire for flaws and if all appears to be fine to go ahead and ride. | ||

excuse me for being slow (and I'm not even on the track  ) I have the 2ct front and back. Is it just the front of either the pilot power and the pilot power 2ct; or is it the front and rear of the pilot power 2ct and only the front of the pilot power? Thus do I need to check the front and back for the numbers listed above or are these just for the pilot power front and I need to call someone for the CT numbers? Boy am I glad I read badweatherbikers!!!!! | ||

It's only Pilot Power fronts 120/70 ZR 17. 2CT fronts will have the DOT code 6UCW980T, standard fronts will have the DOT code 6UCW979T. The next four digits identify the week and year when the tyre was made; if it's a 2CT made between 4505 and 1807 or a standard Pilot Power made between 2704 and 0406 and it was made in France, get in touch with Michelin The most I could get out of them was that the problem is a "manufacturing irregularity" and the tyres are being recalled as a "precaution". http://www.michelin.co.uk/uk/front/act_affich.jsp? news_id=20122&lang=EN&codeRubrique=43 | ||

Thanks 12R!!! The one I used on my track bike and moved to my street is 2706 and thus on the list. Cafe Racer Inc., where I bought it said it was covered, but they, the dealers, got blindsided by the press release and are trying to get the later ones from the warehouses who are seeing what they have. He hopes that in a couple days they can move ahead in this effort. Also, in the what its worth column they have racers that have run this down to the cords without incident. Thanks again. | ||

I guess those date codes must cover pretty much every 120/70 Pilot Power front that the Frenchies have ever made lol. Like you, I have used one before without any problems and my current tyre has 2500 mi on it and looks good. If only I could say the same about the rear. | ||

I just used a new set on a track day. GReat tires! My were made is Spain so I don't think they are recalled. |
