the bike mags may not do it for us, so i did it yesterday. My brother and i did a 200 mile loop yesterday in NH around our area and the performance of these 2 different bikes were staggering. my bro requested no straight boring roads so i took him on some of the best carving roads i know of( this proved deadly for the gixxer). speed limit on some of these roads are 25 to 35 miles an hour and at these speeds and slightly more its like track day(on my buell)! at the end of the first 30 miles he asked if there was anything more open and straight, apparently the gixxer didn't like the slower speeds and he just couldn't settle into 1 gear and run it out. we rode on to some higher speed roads but i will admit just as twisty but some choppy pavement. they were really fun at 50-60 but loose gravel and sh*ty pavement made them pretty technical. when we stopped he told me he needed to get off these roads that he was gettin really bad front end shakefrom the bumps( i poked a little fun at the fact that he has a factory stabilizer). toward the end of the ride we ended up in an industrial park and he wanted to see what the bikes would do side by side straight.guess what? i never had a chance! so in the end after a fantastic day of twisty nasty back road ridin my opinion is if you want to love riding your bike at all speeds and all conditions the buell is the bike hands down. if you want to do 110 and consider twisties a large sweeping corner on a four lane highway go with the gixxer. i also must admit i past many fire roads yesterday and i had to force myself not to take them, cause we all know that just wouldn't have been fair. sorry for long post, safe riding to all |

Sounds more to me like your buddy doesn't know how to ride his Gixxer beyond whacking the throttle wide open. Did you guys swap bikes and go back along the same roads? Now THAT would've been a true "Side-by-side" comparison. If you didn't, you have some homework to do for us... (Message edited by jaimec on June 18, 2007) |

The GSXR1000 (and any of the modern litre sports bikes0 are really not designed to be ridden at 50-60mph. That is like buying a Ferrari and saying that the suspension is a little harsh around town and the steering heavy at 25mph. My brother had a heavily breathed on Yoshimura GSXR750 a few years ago, and that was uncomfortable to ride below 70mph. Too much weight on the wrists, handling was slow and the front felt as if it would wash out every corner. Over 70mph it was like you had flicked a switch and it was a different bike. Over 100mph it was fantastic!! Horses for courses....If you ride all day at 50mph buy a Royal Enfield. |

Sounds more to me like your buddy doesn't know how to ride his Gixxer beyond whacking the throttle wide open. Exactly. He should have dusted you all around if it's a new-style Gixxer. The myth that 1000cc Jap bikes aren't as fast as "better-handling" 600s has been debunked. |

My younger (by 15 years) step-brother has a GSXR1000 and we've gone at it pretty good in the North Georgia mountains. He's a track-day specialist and a very compentent, race school trained, by-the-book rider. He can't leave me in the tight stuff... I made my point succintly when he drifted into the paint and onto a shoulder and I was able to get by (I almost didn't make it!) the first time we rode together. He's smart enough to know it's the rider and not the bike in situations like that. As soon as the road opens up though... he is gone, man. But I always have a big smile on my face when he leaves me on the straights... because that's the only he's getting away. Ahhh... the pleasures of (older) age and treachery. |

With double the horsepower of an XB the GSXR has to have more wheelbase and slightly less aggressive rake/trail to contain the power. That is why 600s are a little easier to throw around in the tight stuff. That is also why XB racebikes with more than stock power have extended wheelbases. That said, a GSXR1000 is one hell of a bike and no slouch in cornering. If you want sharper handling get the 600 and give up some power. A YSR 50 is really fun going down hill in the tight stuff. |

Trojan, I would love to test ride a GSXR750. I haven't had the chance to yet. From what I have read, it's a real sleeper and should be given more of a shot than most folks do. The one I threw a leg over at IMS felt friggin top heavy, though. It felt like the tank was filled with lead. Are they all like that? On Deals Gap, there is nothing more fun than pestering the hell out of 'Busas. You can tell that their pilots are PISSED! Wrong tool for the job, for sure! |

It is all about the versatility. Buell is the channel lock/cresent wrench/vise grip/swiss army knife/hammer of motor cycles. The others might be a Snap-on 3/4" chrome plated open end/box wrench. It will do what it specifically is made to do very well and with style. But it gets ugly if you need say a hammer, or a 5/8" wrench. I really am happy with my Ulitilitylysses!! and I was also very happy with my former Cityfitsall_X. Thank you very much Buell MoCo.! |

The gixxer 1000's also has a huge balancer that spins almost twice as fast as the crank, at least the first models did. When they were tested they said it was hard to pull them over, or down into a corner because of the gyro force of the balancer. I think that came out right. |

i was not in any way nockin the gixxer its fast as hell. i have and did ride my brothers bike and i'll pick my city or any other buell everytime...and his gixxer gets wicked headshake over the slightest bit of washboard. but back to my original post as far as versatility went the buell hands down. i fell back behind and let him take the lead to watch the constant upshift downshift and there it was.....for a good 30 mile run we made i stayed in third as he went up and down, now that has to get annoying. |

Yeah, but the gixxer doesn't make 80% of it's peak torque at 3500rpm. The gixxer has to climb a bit to get to that "more torque". |

I'm not blinded by brand loyalty. See I love motorcycles, period. I don't care if it's American or Japanese or of some other origin. And if you don't respect the Jap sport bikes for packing an insane amount of technology into a cheap package then you're blinded by something. They can get over 100 horsepower and 160+ MPH out of a 600cc engine. That is incredible even if those bikes do have to scream to 15,000 to make the power. Most of the Jap sport bikes are designed for the track first and the street second and this is why they are so high strung. This may not suit everybody, especially on the street, but you have to give credit where credit is due. |

It's the same old stuff post after post. Some of you act as if you've invented the wheel. Tell me something I don't know, not what I already know. I don't sit here comparing your wives and girlfriends day after day to super models so stop comparing Buells to freakin repli-racers. I'm tired of the constant whining and complaining that Buells aren't packing 160+ hp. If that's what you want then go out and buy yourself one, then you can go hang out at the R1 boards and find something else to complain about. |

Surely it is a fair point? When the majority of roads in the UK have a speed limit of 60 mph and lots of Gatso's, what really is the point of running a bike that isn't using 30% of its power at those speeds? Maybe I'm an old fart now, but I don't see the point of >160bhp. |

I love hyper-bikes. The evolution from the 70's bludgeons I started out on to the cutting edged scalpels I bought off the showroom floor was a wonder to behold... I'm glad I was there to own and ride them. But now... I'm here. It's where I want to be. It's just more fun. |

Pretending your XB is a superbike is folly. XB's are great fun, very capable in turns, and great "feeling" engine. Just have a great time, which they are VERY good at. |

The new R6 allegedly works better on the track than it does on the road. And now the euphoria has died down, the 1098 is getting similar comments. For sure, sportsbikes will become more and more track focused but thankfully Buell is playing a different game |
