A few weeks back I ordered a set of Buell removable saddlebags and a Buell detachable trunk. When I went to mount the bags, I couldn't even get them to fit properly on my 07 XB9SX. With a lot of fumbling with the velcro straps that hold them on, I finally got them to fit...sort of. They have rear cut-outs for the turn signals, but the turn signals are longer than the cut-outs allow. So the turn signals just bent backwards. The bags don't even have that much room... The trunk, on the other hand, is great. It has about as much room as both of the bags combined. It is easily detached by four buckles/clips, two on each saddlebag. Now for the problems... I just got back from a 2,500 mile, week long trip. The bags and trunk were crucial. When I took them off yesterday, they left a scar. There are now permanent marks on the passenger peg bars and the side rails under the seat. The nylon straps from the bags somehow marked up the bike. I tried Goof-off, but no results. I expected better quality and fit from Buell. |

The instructions clearly state to use protective tape where the straps touch the frame. Mine have the scars also but I don't care about it that much. I would like to line the rails with line-x and forget about it. |

Sorry, Bamafan - I've been down the same road. You're supposed to use the provided tape to prevent the chafing as Tank stated. I also ran into fitment problems on my '06 CityX. I haven't put them on yet this season, but I do recall having to do some tinkering to make them fit. Overall, once I got them on, I wasn't displeased with the look, but I think the bags were touching the signals. If you want, let me know and I can put the bags back on and let you know what I did to make 'em fit better. |

It's no big deal really. I hardly ever run with bags, and it just left a few black marks on the frame. But, it's a little surprising that Buell could engineer a ZTL front brake, design an ingenious frame that acts as the gas tank, and create an idler pulley that provides constant belt tension, but they couldn't make simple saddlebags that mount easily and don't require putting tape on your bike. |

if you want a really cavernous trunk set, try the SportTrunk from H&B. I have them on my bike and they are bike and deep, the included straps are worthless though, so you will have to go to the ROK straps to make it happen. I am dressing up the bike for this camping season, I will post a pic. |

are the protective strips something new? I ordered my saddle bags with my bike, and the dealer already had them on when I picked the bike up - no protective strips on the bike, and none in the bags. fit is a little odd, and I found I had better results running only the front, and rear straps between the seat and frame, with the center strap going right under the battery/ecm 'pan'. ( no idea where they 'should' have been, since the dealer also didnt include any literature with the bags) I posted a similar query about marks from the bags maybe 6 months ago, and got told 'its normal' by the masses here...kind of a moot point now, as I'm using Oxford Humpback sport bags now ( 45l combined capacity on the cityx - woohoo, now I can carry more than a spare pair of running shoes!) |

I've got some luggage on the way. COuple questions: 1: What is the difference between the "long" version of the Buell luggage and the regular Lightning luggage? (can 2.5 inches make THAT much difference in how the bags fit?) 2: I'm missing the passenger pegs. (the ones they say not to use while the luggage is attached) I've seen images of the luggage being tethered to those brackets. Will they work without the passenger pegs? How hosed am I? Thanks |
