I needed to remove the primary cover from Sara's Scg. (to avoid embarsement please do no task why)When I reinstalled the cover, I torqued down the bolt that holds the foot shift lever down to the factory manual spec torque. I found then that the lever would not move freely back to its resting position. When upshifting the foot lever would stay up. It is as if the return spring is not strong enough to return the lever. I lossened the bolt about 2-5 ft lbs and it seems to work very well. What did I do wrong? It seems to me that there should have been a tad longer of a spacer/bushing in the mechanism. I checked my shop manual (I have the one for the Uly and other than the mounting bolts for the shift lever it appears to be the same as the Scg) and checked to make sure the bushing and colars are on the lever. I also put a good dab of loctite red on the bolt just to make sure it does not work out because I am not up to minimum torque. Any help suggestion appreciated. | ||

Maybe the plastic collars are not mashed into the lever properly, or got burs on them during the incident you don't want to talk about. The metal collar should be wider than the lever plus the plastic inserts, preventing binding. ps. Use red locktite. I lost my bolt and collar a couple weeks ago because I didn't. | ||

Check it again to see if the bolt is bent. That's what happened to me, but I don't want to talk about it. I replaced the bolt and the washers/bushings. | ||
