Where can you buy this? Anything I can do to increase cooling has to be a plus. Please post a link if you can. |

The one that matches the left can be purchased from Rob at r.crins@gmx.net for roughly 200 euro. You can also purchase them from the site sponsor, American Sportbike. Hope that helps!! |

You know you're gonna blow up your engine, the sky will fall, oil will boil, your butt cheeks will flap in the wind due to the negative pressure differential, blah, blah, blah..... Someone had to do it! |

heheh, I spoke with Erik himself at homecoming last year and asked about the right side scoops. They've test them out themselves and they'll do you no harm. But he also said they just weren't necessary as the fan does its' job of keep the rear cylinder at temp (assuming that you do not mind the fan...). |

Your most welcome. I have the one from Rob. Nice guy to do business with. As for the pro vs. con thing thats a whole nother can a worms there. Looks good in my opinion. Helps with the aesthetics. |

Oh it comes on. It's just that the sound of your butt cheeks flapping in the wind is drowning out the sound. |

i did my research, and there is no conclusive evidence that it's actually cooling any better. The air could just be fooling the temp gauge for the fan.... My opinion is it's more cosmetic than functional... |

My theory is what would it hurt? More air being directed to the motor can't be bad. As far as the air "fooling" the temp gauge? If there's cool enough air, the fan wouldn't turn on, isn't that the point? Not to have the fan turn on? I can't find the product on American Sportbike..I'd like to get one from a sponsor. Anybody have a link to the page where its located? |

I have used my hand held temp reader and trust me it does make a difference. The front and rear cyclinder temps are within 10-20 deg's every time if have checked it. |

I'm not picking on anybody and I know carbon fiber is expensive, but damn, $270.00 for 1 scoop is alot. How much is a new fan? |

To me its not the price of a fan its more the fact that i don't have to hear it. |

My opinion is it's more cosmetic than functional... Have you ever looked at your temp sensor for the rear head? I have my heads and cylinders off right now, and I believe that the temp sensor that is mounted into the top of the rear cylinder head, above the combustion chamber and sealed from ambient in a rubber boot, can only read the temp of the head. Ain't no breeze gonna fool it. |

I'm not saying there isn't a chance it does something. until there is evidence to show it helps (other than hearse and i think my fan kicks on less) , i will not believe it's doing much. |

http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/9160.html This is the right side air scoop that looks closer to the left side scoop. This one should force more air to the rear cylinder. (Message edited by wantxbr on June 13, 2007) |

one thing that I noticed with the factory scoop is when I'm riding and the fan turns on, it will not turn on unless I stop and shut the bike down for a few minutes. that would tell me that there is insufficent cooling to bring the temperature back in line. I dont know of any cars that require the cooling fan to be on at all times. well there was on car that did it was a 91 camaro with a 383 and a stock V6 radiator and fan So, does the right side scoop alow the fan to turn off while riding? |

So, does the right side scoop alow the fan to turn off while riding? I have the RSS and when my fan comes on at long traffic stops, it goes back off shortly after I start rolling again. |

Ok this might be a silly question but could the rear cylinder get too cool? Ie going down the freeway for long periods of time? |

Most water cooled engines use a thermostat to regulate the circulation of coolant to the radiator and there is another thermostat to operate the fan at the radiator. All of this keeps the engine within a very specific temperature range. The Buell system relies on the fan to pull the temperature of the engine back down to a specific range as well, 428-356F. The range is wider than a water cooled engine but is about as narrow a range as can be expected on a air cooled engine. Especially an air cooled engine that is some what exposed and can be operated in differing climates at high speeds. So can the rear cylinder head be to cool? It might be too cool for EPA but it is not too cool to hurt the engine. |

The scoop works, trust me. I haven't heard my fan in weeks even after stopping. Good synthetic oil and RS Scoop has reduced my fan by AT LEAST 60%. I personally didn't like the fan noise, so I'm happy. |

Hey John, I bought mine used from a guy here on BadWeb. It's the fiberglass one that American Sport Bike sells. Man does it work!!! Even in 80 degree plus weather the fan hardly comes on. Sure looks good too-it really balances out the front end of the bike. If you want one from American Sport Bike just let me know and I'll order you one from Al. BudC |

Xb12rdude, the fan save your engine. I love it and, thanks to the FCFS™ (Fan Cooler Forcing System), I can start the fan everytime I want! I use already syn oil and Lorandi's RS scoop, of course... |

RSS is great. Uly right side heat is unacceptable!!!!!!!!! I bought Odie's RS blanket, it helped but not enough. Added RSS, no diff, I was pissed! and ready to sell it. Adjusted the Odie blanket, and wow, huge diff. I no longer have to keep my right knee out in the wind, and the fan works less. I really wasn't looking forward to the time and effort needed to R&R my pipes to jet-hot them. Get a RSS and Odie's blanket. Bret |

Bret: Please elaborate. You say the Special Ops RS (right side?) blanket helped but not enough. Then you added the Right Side Scoop and there was no difference. You were then ready to sell the blanket, scoop or bike; I'm not sure which. Then you adjusted the blanket and all is right with the world. Could you please explain what you did that finally made a huge improvement so that I can try to replicate your results? Is it simply a blanket adjustment or both of the modifications working together? Thanks. Dave |

IMO a RS air-scoop is the way to go. Anything to cool down these fire breathing dragons. The fan noise doesn't bother me at all, but the heat can get annoying around town.

Hey Sneth... isn't the rear cylinder temp sensor deep within the assembly? I mean, it's buried in there. So, if the fan comes on significantly less with a RSS, how come you're not convinced? What more evidence do you need and how would you get it? I ride the exact same bike as my friend on the exact same HWY at the exact same time in the exact same temperature at the exact same speed and when we stop at the exact same place, my fan isn't running and his is. And, in the event that my fan is running, it usually runs at the slower speed and shuts off well before his does. You may call it hear-say. I call it evidence. Anyone else interested in putting a RSS on their XB - I say go for it - it looks cool too. |

its an air cooled motor. more air = cooler = longer life span. but why not fit a bigger oil cooler instead? |

My fan doesm't run at all when I'm riding around town. Some of the lights here let you sit for over 5 minutes, and it is getting hot. It only starts up when I turn off the key, first the high speed for a minute or two, then low for 2 or 3 minutes. Temps have been +90 every time I ride except in the morning, and the fan runs every time I've shut her down. Is this normal? "why not fit a bigger oil cooler " = more oil = a good thing. Any after market larger capacity coolers out there? } |

its an air cooled motor. more air = cooler = longer life span. but why not fit a bigger oil cooler instead? A bigger cooler would be nice. I put a 6 row jagg cooler on my softail, with 2 tornado pc fans in front of it. That was over 2 years ago and it is still working perfect. My softail is now my daily driver since the top end is off the Uly. The fans come on when you stop, kinda like the Uly..just not as loud. Made a big difference in felt heat and engine/oil temps. May have to try the fan trick on the Uly since my RSS won't fit with the new pipe. |
