The concrete double lane going up Blood Mountain to the hiker's lodge is my favorite... the road is fast but fairly safe with great camber and plenty of room for passing. There are so many good roads, you'll have to try them all.
My suggestion is to get a map and explore... or maybe just try and see if you can get lost. |

Stop by Wylies in Dahlonega for a good meal and maybe a conversation with a local cutie. Go downstairs to the lounge, not the restaurant part. |

G's maps pretty much cover it. No finer riding in the land. Have you ridden in the area before? Make sure you stop by Two Wheels Only at the intersection of 180 (Wolf's Pen) and 60. Tell Britt and GT the 3%ers sent you and they will accept you as family.* Here is another site with some good routes. http://www.motorcycleroads.us *They will accept you as family regardless of club name dropping. But I would not feel as good about myself and am very sensitive. |

First time on a bike there. Two Buell's going so it should be fun. Only have 1 full day to ride so will see how much road can be covered. |

First time in North Georgia, eh? Boy are you going to have fun! You absolutely have to stop by Two Wheels Only. The food is excellent, but don't eat there if it's crowded. The kitchen is set up for quality, not speed. Great place to hydrate in a hurry though - good sweet tea and coffee brewing all the time. |

Only have 1 full day to ride so will see how much road can be covered. You'll be back. Take it easy until you get used to the roads. Stay off 129 at "Miller" time unless you like swapping paint with pick up trucks. The cooler run is best when started south from TWO. Watch for cold patch gravel in 2 successive turns about 3 miles north of TWO (just before Suches Creek Rd.) Cold patch gravel just before chute down to bridge at Winfield Scott. |

Make sure you stop by Two Wheels Only at the intersection of 180 (Wolf's Pen) and 60. Who knows how you may run into while at TWO, it's the meeting place. Also Dale's Gas Station across the way. Only have 1 full day to ride so will see how much road can be covered. Shred and I often did 300+ mile days in the Great North Georgia Mountains. You'll be back. True. |

I will shout at you all when we get back. Why not give us your schedule to North Georgia, maybe we can meet at TWO, and you'll not need a map! |

I haven't any plans that I know of. I'll have to check with MrsG to be sure though. We were planning on a Sunday ride, no reason not to either switch to or add Saturday. I don't need much of an excuse to head to the hills! |

Dringblast, In one day..... I rode from Dalonaga, up Hwy 60 to T.W.O., all the way across Hwy 180 (wolfpen gap) to include a ride up to Brasstown Bald, Down Hwy 17 (I think) towards Helen, right turn to catch Russel B., back towards US 129 then up and over Blood mountain, right on to Hwy 19 back up to Hwy 60 and back to T.W.O. for lunch... Back down Hwy 60 to the rockpile, across 19 to US 129, back over Blood Mountain and then north to the Dragon, Half way up the Cherohala (had to turn back and take the quickest route home), back down US 129, across wolpen, stop at T.W.O. then back to Dalonaga for dinner (on the N.E. corner of the square, I believe it's the Dalonaga brewery. Great food!!!)... ALl in one day... still light when we got back... nearly 400 miles of SMILES!!!!! Did I mention two-up??? DjK.... I went and you didn't Ha!!!!! (just kidding bro) |

"DjK.... I went and you didn't Ha!!!!!" You're a great pathfinder, Laird. The group ride you lead to Deals Gap during MBIV was perfectly paced and you were able to get everyone back in one piece. Count me in next year for another adventure - I'll follow you anywhere. |

What a great area to ride. I used to go to TWO when Frank Cheek ran it. Many stories to tell, rode my BMW, hot rod Sportster and Buell to TWO, Helen, Deal's Gap during the late 80's and early 90's. Jerry |

Back to the original topic... The Richard B. Russel is a great ride, especially the southern portion. Not a lot of room for passing though, so if you get behind the sightseers it will get frustating real quick!! |

On RBR or any other of the fine twisties try this technique: When stuck behind a slow car and there is nowhere to pass, pull over and relax for five minutes. Over the years the passing zones are getting fewer and farther between. Also, Lumpkin & Union SD, and the staties are out on weekends especially looking for riders crossing a double yellow. Finally, we tag and bag a lot of day riders who didn't expect a car in their lane. Take five and relax. Enjoy the ride again. |
