Will a race EMC out of an 03 work in my 05? They are always listed up to an 04. My MFG date is 7-04. It would seem like the electronics would be the same. |

I gather that you ride a XB9..........the trottlebody and the injectors have changed considerably in the 2005 Model. I gather this makes this more difficult. It may be be possible to programm the ECM with the directlink software with the 2005 curves, but this is hassle. The older stock ECMs did not give any reprogamming option as far as I know (unconfirmed information). How about asking The people from, Hals Speedshop or Al They know for sure. tiger |

If yer gonna re-program, just re-program what cha got. While you can put the 03 ECM in the 05 and re-set the TPS, more likely than not you'll be running pretty lean, for the reasons Tiger posted. Lean = HOT = detonation (or ping) = dead engine... |

NO!! We got burned by this on the remapping. The 03/04 ECM and the 05+ XB9 race ECm are very different. Not only in the tables, but also in some other scalar constants that the algorithms operate on. If you poke an 03 map into an 05, it won't yield the same fueling. We remapped an 03 ECM on an 06 throttle body, then put that map into a true 05, and got poor results. Al |

This is very interesting AL and I gather that is related to a different firmware (for the guys who wonder what that is..... thats the operating system (O)S the ECM uses to coordinate its own internal functions) and confirms my suspicions. Thx for sharing that. The maps of the 2005 9series ECM can be changed without problems against the 12 series maps. These have data that support up to 8000 RPM............the rev limiter is than also set to 7500 which indicates that this is programmed into the firmware rather than the Maps. There is a German Guy by the name of Gunther who has programmed with some mates a well working ECM programming software that he gives away for free. http://www.ecmspy.de/download/EcmSpySetup.exe You will need a cable and that can be requested from Gunther who makes these for the greater good of the Buell community. This project has no commercial background!..............obviously this is only a toy for people who know how to handle "weapons" like this otherwise it may end in tears. tiger |

I tried this soft, very very good job. for the connection : PC Interface lead To connect ECMSpy running on a PC to your bike you need a special lead. The ECU on the bike uses a TTL (5V) serial data port - NOT RS232. To connect to you PC you have to convert the TTL to RS232 data levels. There are several ways to do this * Use a MAX232 level shifter chip and build up a little electronic circuit, powered from the PC RS232 COM port. If you do this use the MAX232E device as it is ESD protected. * Use a FTDI interface lead, this connects to you USB port, emulates a RS232 COM port and provides 5V TTL signals direct. http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/EvaluationKits/TT L-232R-WE.htm JP |
