Hi there.....I have always tried to follow the philosophy of "upgrade instead of replace". So now I have my '97 S3 which I have torn down ready to rebuild. I am going to send the heads to a machine shop, and have the cylinders bored....but my question is what I should up upgrade while I have her all torn apart? Upgrade my ignition? Any upgrades for the oil pump? Best spark plugs? Any other kind of good upgrades that I can do to my motor. I am new to Buells so I still do not know what all is out there. Mike |

Mike Before you spend too much on those heads consider upgrading to XB or thunderbolt heads. Look for S1W headers with 2.5" collector and can to match. Just a start and pending fiscal limits. Joe |

I've heard the bronze oil pump drive gear is a good choice, still on www.buell.com under X1/M2/S3 accessories. If you're in the cam case, think about either the Lightning cams or a set of stock XB cams. Hm. Sounds like my project See "upgrading heads/cams - S2" elsewhere in this forum... |

Replace/Check the Primary Chain Adjuster. It likely has the thin metal back. You need the upgraded thick metal back. Use the new thicker gaskets instead of the old style paper gaskets for the covers. Fewer leaks. Love my S3's The newer heads would be good if money allows. |

Buell82, if you are like the rest of us, you certainly want to check the nut behind the handle bars. It is usually located right on top of the seat, and can adversely affect the fuel economy, and lean angle of the bike. It has also been known to inexplicably rev the throttle and pop the clutch. Just watching out for ya bro. |
