i just picked up an xb9r & am looking to do some track days. the original 207's are comming off this week. i was looking for some opinions on what to replace with & what tire pressures to run. this is my first xb & first track time. thanks | ||

Michelin Pilot Powers have been the tire of choice on my street XB12R. They offer great tire mileage and great grip. Warm day track day pressures were 26-rear and 31-front. These were recommended by the Michelin tire vendor and they have been awesome on the track at that pressure. | ||

We run the Pirellis on the Drummer race bike. Buell tested with all the tire brands and the Pirelli is the best for the Buell chassis. I have never run the Michelin tires but I am sure they are good as well. | ||

well i plan on doing three track days this year. i should get a chance to try both of them them. thanks for the input. i also just got some lyndall gold pads to try out. i love those on my S3. | ||

got a new set of diablo corsa's on the bolt. now it feels like a whole different bike! only problem was when i leaned over real hard yesterday on the chicken strips the bike slid out about six inches & i almost lost it (love that xb chassis!) we both survived . i was wondering how to remove that new tire slickness from the edges before sliding through the curves. sand paper? chemicals? | ||

Nuke I also use the diablos... I always take the wheels to the tire shop so they don't have to mess with my fragile axles... I say that because prior to re-installing the wheels with new tires I rub the sides of the tires down with medium or fine grit scouring pads... I bought them at a auto-paint store for final prep before painting... I usually just get the initial shine off the tire and I don't have nearly the problem with slipping on the sissy-strips... that was when I was living in the mountains and usually dropped into the entire strip in the first few corners... "I" wouldn't use sandpaper but maybe those pads could help... | ||

The Dunlop Qualifiers work really well also, and can be had mailorder for as little as $200 a set. | ||

I fitted a set of Avon Viper Sports because they were buy the rear and get the front for free. So far I like them for street tires, and I plan to do some track days with them in June. They run a rather high rear pressure at 42psi as recommended by the manufacturer. The only problem is they don't have any suggestions for track pressures. Is there a general rule for how much pressure to drop for the track or am I left to just guess? Any suggestions? Thanks, Schmitty | ||

I generally use pads like that but I use dish soap and water with them as well. Works great. | ||

Just one interesting fact regarding the popular Power vs Corsa question: Front Michelin Pilot Power 2CT = 4 kg Front Pirelli Diablo Corsa III = 4.5kg The effect of 0.5=1.1lbs on the gyroscopic&unsprung weight effect is BIG on the XB. It is very noticable and the XB is benefited from the use of the Michelin Power tires. The corner entry is faster and the line is tighter. The rear tire's weight is the same for both the tires of Power and Corsa. | ||

I let the parts guy talk me into the 2CTs instead of the Corsa 3's. Saved a couple of bucks in the process. I'll mount the wheels tomorrow and hope to ride on Friday if the weather cooperates. Have a track day scheduled for mid-July. I'll let you know how I like the tires. |
