I have a 97' S1 Lightning and wanted ta know if there was any better setup for the front light than the Giant Eye look that i have now. I've had lot's of trouble finding things for this bike. I've had it almost 4 years now and as always harley has never been any help, so i would really like someplace to look. Help if ya can, thanks | ||

Hello, It's been a long time since I've visited this board. Glad to see it's still very active. A recent crash of my regular commuter has put me back on my 02M2 daily. I have a race air filter and a Wiley Bros pipe and for years, have planned to re-jet the carb. She coughs and spits and hates cold air. So.... should I finally re-jet the carb or buck up and buy a flat side? At one point I had the instruction to re-jet but, there they are lost and there is SO MUCH info in the knowledge vault that it's difficult to find. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. billiegoat | ||

This should be in the KV but I'll give you the short version. Unless you have done motor work (cams, head work, etc.) the HSR42 will not buy you much of anything. Performance is near identical, the 42 has a bit more smooth delivery. The CV40 can be made to run very will with very minor tweeks. Start with a 45 pilot jst and the air screw set to 2 1/2 turns out. You will need to remove the plug on the bottom to get at the air screw. Drill a small hole in the plug then screw in a sheet metal screw a couple threads then pull the plug out. The screw is right under the plug so when drilling be very careful. The main jet should be a 185 or 190. That will get you in the ball park and make your M2 MUCH happier! Brad One more thing, replace your intake seals while you have the carb off. If they are not leaking now, the will shortly. They're only good for a few years... | ||

Been a very long time since I've popped 'round here. Just have a couple bikes to sell in the Classified area if anyone is interested. Trying to simplify my life and in the process, buy a pure MX bike. And as I only commute to work, no pleasure riding as the roads where I live suck and bore me to tears, I don't need 3 road bikes. I tend to play in the dirt more these days. Right now I'm just selling the Buell and Honda XL, but will probably sell the FXDX and BMW shortly. | ||

Plus I need to replace my fork seals. Think these are available? I haven’t been to a dealership in years and don’t even know if one exist in the Phoenix area. Jim,give Al a call at American Sportbike,he keeps that stuff in stock. Batteries you can get pretty much anywhere. Just need to make a seal installer, I used pvc pipe cut to size,check knowledge vault. Good to hear from you. | ||

Hey Blake, Damn to be honest I am quite surprised you are still maintaining the BBS. I simply figured it wouldn’t be worth all the baby-sitting (not meant to be negative) and hassle. I know it can take its toll even with the best. I only lasted 8 years with mine. As far as the house goes, I’m trying to keep from loosing it. <grin> If I can hang in there just 2 more years and make a few more bucks on the side, I will sell it and my home in Phoenix. My daughter just moved to Willow Springs (not sure if that’s one word or two) North Carolina. I just spend 2 weeks there visiting. What an incredible place to live, plus mansions with a ton of land are incredibly inexpensive. I could not believe how friendly everyone I met there was. Jim, good to see your name pop up. i concur with your "friendly" and "inexpensive" comments above. this is beautiful, old country, and the riding is sublime. Willow Springs, NC is indeed two words, and would put you about an hour or so west of Ulywife and M2nc (Kristi and Carlos Saurez, Grifton, NC), two of the nicest (and most active) Buell riders you'll ever meet. suggest you pay a visit to the C3 (Carolina Corner Carvers) thread in Storm Fronts - the folks in there are as friendly as the locals you've already met. Denise and i moved 2700 miles to SW Virginia (Fancy Gap, right on the Blue Ridge Parkway) at the first of the year, and are loving it. friendly people, incredibly inexpensive, gorgeous country, and sublime riding. what else is there??? best regards, FB&D | ||

i have a 2003 firebolt xb9r that has gone through 2 drive belts in less than 10,000 miles; i have 2 questions - is anyone else experiencing belts breaking before their time? anyway to lengthen the belt life? MOST importantly can anyone provide step by step instructions as to how to change the belt in my garage instead of trailering it 350 miles to the nearest buell dealer??? thanks Donedealdog | ||

Ddd, no premature breakage in 48k miles, but that's just me changing belts around 15k as recommended. Others, I'm sure, will chime in with horror stories. How did the edges of the belts look? Was there any indication of misalignment like the belt riding a little off the pulley? Any fraying, chunking or cord strands showing? Have you examined both sprockets for any kind of damage or abnormal wear including the condition of the hard chrome plating? There's gotta be something common in this. How many rear tires have you gone through in this time? Has the same dealer always handled your belts and tire changes? Maybe they don't know the belt should not be twisted or bent tighter than the drive pulley's diameter? | ||

Jim,do you mean trackday stuff as Vik(Eek) is an instructor with Zoom-Zoom track day schools.Ask in quick board, Steve Slaughter a better source for this stuff.Or post over on Sacborg and Vik,Chop, etc will give good input. | ||

Freddy Spencer school in Vegas is highly rated. Their website has all the details. Last I recall it was going to run $2500 or so for a two day weekend, their bike. I was looking for something with elevation due to my Astrophotography hobby and of course price. not far at all, perhaps 30-45 minutes. with elevation as one of your parameters, this would be a good reason to focus on being as close to the Parkway as possible, as it typically follows the highest terrain. i've been thru Sparta a couple of times, looks like it'd be a nice place to call home. What's your opinion so far, climate, snow, yada, yada. have only been here six months, so can't give an "old-timer's" perspective of life on the Blue Ridge Plateau yet. that said, damn cold in the winter for someone used to SoCal winter weather, and a BIG surprise for us was the ferocity of the winter winds, altho the locals say this year was particularly brutal. didn't get much snow this year, but we're told that some years it'll bury a parked car so bad you can't tell there's a car under there. the humidity is higher out here, and whether it's a "problem" depends on who you ask. the locals deny any humidity at all up here on the Plateau, but coming from SoCal (i.e. 0%) we beg to disagree. it's WAY better up here than down on the Piedmont, however, drier AND cooler, and tolerable so far. speaking of humidity, the cold here in the winter is a WET cold, and it's a lot harder to hide from than the dry cold we're used to. if you want, we can take a recon ride one of these days to Sparta, shoot some "flavor" pix of the area, and round up some real estate info for you.
