Hi old-school folks, just thought I'd drop in and say "hi" and let you know that even though I haven't posted anything for ages, I still have my X1 and it's still going strong and basically trouble free I'm doing a fair bit of two-up riding these days and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on suspension setup? I know an X1 isn't exactly the best two-up bike, but I love the bike and so does my girlfriend My thoughts are maybe upgrading to a stiffer rear spring, or upgrading to a new rear shock (what's available these days?)... or finding an excuse to buy a new Triumph Tiger... Any thoughts? I hope you're all well and giving those XB's a hard time cheers, lemonchili |

assuming that you cant set the preload on the standard shock where its needed, a works or penskii(sp) with the proper spring check with Al at American Sport Bike |

Thanks Oldog, thanks Joe. I didn't realise Works did a shock for the tubers. I had a Works shock on my old GSXR and was very impressed with it, so I'd happily buy another one if I do replace the shock. I've adjusted the preload and have almost the normal ride height, but there is a lot of travel/deflection when you hit a bump, more than on other bikes that I've ridden two-up, which makes me think even a slightly stiffer spring would be good. Our combined mass is about 310-320lbs which I wouldn't think is out of the ordinary. Has anybody changed the spring on the late type shock? Anybody done a lot of two-up work on a tuber? Did you change anything? Do S3's use the same spring as X1's? And don't worry, even if I get serious about a Tiger, the X1 is staying lemonchili |

Graham: just a thought, the bike is pogoing? wilst 2 up? perhaps a compression and rebound adjust is in order, these asjustments and trouble symptoms are covered in the FSM. |

No, not pogoing. I have increased the rebound and compression damping and the bike still stays composed, just running out of ground clearance if I hit a big bump mid corner. Some bumpy roads around here! I might add a couple more turns of preload and see if it's better. |
