Hello everyone - Hopefully someone had an experience like this. My brake lamp works, but the tail lamp does not on my 2005 XB9SX. I took the seat off. If I am standing at the back of the bike and looking forward, I unplugged the left positive wire to the tail light, which appears to me to be the brake light. I touched the right wire, which normally controls the tail lamp, to the left terminal. It instantly lights up very brightly like the brakes are on. To me, this rules out the fuses and wiring. Could the right terminal be bad on the tail light assembly? But why does it light up like the brakes are on? Shouldn't the tail lamp wire have less power or is there some kind of regulator in the assembly? Any thoughts? Thanks! |

It was the bulb. Neither filament was broken, but after replacing the bulb everything worked fine. Thanks! |

fellow Buellers, I've went from a minor problem to a troubling one. I had removed the tailight assy. for other reasons, and to my knowledge assy. it right back the way i found it, seemed simple enough. The tail light is lit bright with power yet hardly changes when the brake is pressed?? not to mention the two identical plugs seem to double as the bulbs spring action?maybe i've reinstalled these wrong? any help would surely b appreciated and get me back on the road.. |

Sounds like you swapped the brake light wire with the running light wire. Swap 'em back and all will be good again. |
