I have drilled and tapped the timing cover on mine and put a orange pancake blinker from a FLSTC Heritage over it. Taking the last bit of Blue off of my orange bike. |

A Buell IS a Harley. I swear I posted on this thread about how cool the Harley skull is. Maybe it was on another board... |

Excellent judgement Snake! You have put your finger on the problem: acquisition. I believe the part was last offered around 1999 as a Buell accessory. I got mine on eBay, was new old stock, I forget the part number. If you had a real friendly old time Buell dealer, he could access the old accessory catalogue, and then find the part on the Harley Net. Don't laugh, they did it for me once at Tilleys. I painted it to match the new "magnesium" color. |

Damnut....Spidey would be proud! I bought my bike from a guy who dumped it and marred up the cam cover and dropped off the cover, so I'm in need of a new one. Did that HD skull cover fit exactly or did you have to machine it? Anything difficult to watch for when tapping the cam cover? Very cool, all of them. Gives me grat ideas |

John, Nothing to it. There is a plate under the decorative cover. Just drill out the rivets that hold the stock cover, remove that plate, and then tap with a 10/32 tap. If I recall correctly, you do not even need to drill it out: just use the rivet holes. You may notice that all of the covers shown above use a almost vertical screw location. I deplore this placement, both on aesthetic grounds, and because those screw holes are used to hold the timing plate in place, and should not be messed with unless necessary. There are two horizontal holes provided in the underplate. Those are the ones to use, if possible. They are the holes that the original rivets went into. Lines up the screws nicely. I used 10/32 stainless allen heads, which match the rest of the screws on the cam cover. Previously, when I had a flat plate on my XB9, I used chrome button heads. It's the little things that count, don't you agree?

Pretty sure he means the Harley Cover ... it was $19 at my local HD. I used the holes in the secondary timer cover that is underneath the decorative outer cover. There is a hole perfectly situated at 9 and 3 oclock where the rivets were. I wanted to use the bolts that came with the skull cover ... but the holes are too big. If I had a welder I would have tacked a nut on the back of each hole .. that would have been perfect. I took a chisel and basically smashed each hole slightly smaller ... then used the included bolts as self tappers to install it. Worked out perfect since the included bolts heads fit perfectly in the timer cover notches. (Message edited by dmhines on May 24, 2007) |

Go down to your local HD dealer, they should have all sorts of cool ones and not all them say HD on them. Look for the Sportster covers. |
