Hey- I just got a XB12R about a week ago and till today everything was running fine. This morning when I rode to work I noticed that the fuel pump was continuing to whine while the bike was running. I am used to it whining when you flip on the engine run switch on and it primes the throttle body but now it is continuing to whine. Is this the pump going bad, a bad relay or is it just a noisy pump? Any help would be appreciated. Bill |

Noises from mine seem to come and go. I wonder if it sometimes gets a bubble trapped somewhere or something. |

The fuel pump whine on my 06 12R has become much more noticeable over it's 6000 miles. I've wondered myself if it was about to die, but it runs fine. Is this just another "normal" noise to live with? Asked the dealer about it at the 5k service and got the standard "representative of the product" BS, never even listened to it. |

Mine has just under 7k on it. I took it out for lunch to see what it would do and it seems a little quieter (maybe I'm getting used to it) but it is still there and a lot louder than yesterday. I noticed it doesn't speed up with revs so I am pretty sure it isn't the oil pump. Just getting me a little worried after having the bike only a week. |

The earlier XB fuel pumps could be quite loud at times. The pump on my '04 varies from barely audible to sometimes squealing at me when it primes. I've read that this is due to the design of the pump allowing it to occasionally trap air around the pump. There was a change to all XB fuel pumps in the middle of the '05 model year to a new pump design that is much quieter. If the fuel pump on your '04 sometimes loud and sometimes quiet, it's normal. If it's continually loud, that could be indicative of a problem. Having said that, I don't think we've seen many (if any) XB fuel pump failures here on badweb, so the XB pumps seem to be fairly hardy. |

Thanks Spike. That eases my mind. I will keep an eye (or ear) on it. |

The fuel pump on my '05 City X is quiet the first start up of the day. After that, it squeals when you turn on the ignition. |

First time I turned on the ignition I thought I bought a food processor. The tone and pitch come and go, but its noticably quieter when its warm outside. |
